Finally got around to seeing Drive. What an intense movie and absolutely one of my favorites of the year. I enjoyed just about everything about it, and liked that it didn't feel the need, like many dramas, to stretch out to more than two hours with unnecessary scenes.

I would rather have seen Drive get nominated for best picture than Moneyball.

Talk about a Best Pic nom which shouldn't have been . . .

It didn't get more play, I suspect, because the screenplay was entirely too vague. It was either inside baseball or words like "shitshow." I understand why what happened actually happened, and the movie endeavored to confuse people like me. When various characters say "look at that number" and don't actually say the number, it's a little unnerving.

The score (Clint Manfuckingsell!) and imagery were just freakin fantastic, but the story was way too convoluted and shitty. Everyone gets one - this might be Aronofsky's.

    I hated 'The Fountain.'

I thought 'Margin Call' was terrible and boring.

    I hated 'Moneyball.'

'Drive' was OK, but I don't understand anyone thinking it was any better than that.

"And 'The Godfather'? Fuck 'The Godfather.' Utter drivel. Same with 'Citizen Kane.' And 'Schindler's List'? Don't make me laugh. Complete trash. Not to mention the abomination that is 'The Graduate.' I wipe my ass with 'The Graduate.'"

Watching 2009's "World's Greatest Dad" made me realize I really like Robin Williams as the creepy weird guy he has played in about 10 of the last 12 movies he's been in.

And who knew Bobcat Goldthwait had that sort of writing and directing abilities? His satire of post-death adulation was fantastic.

Goldthwait is releasing a movie called "God Bless America" -- a send-up of reality television. I'm actually excited to see it now. It stars Joel Murray, the actor who played Freddie Rumsen in Mad Men.

I'm now going to go home and watch One Hour Photo. Oh, Michael Vartan ... how I miss you.

Are you putting 'The Fountain,' 'Margin Call' and 'Moneyball' on equal footing with 'The Godfather' and 'Citizen Kane'?
Seems like more than a bit of a stretch to me, but we all have different expectations when assessing levels of craftsmanship and/or artistic merit.
