Loved that line. Alan Arkin great in this one.

Haven't "watched" the movie yet, but Klosterman wrote about "Room 237," a documentary coming out soon on alternate meanings for Kubrick's "The Shining."

About halfway down, there's a link to one of the theories ... a video where a guy explains how "The Shining" REALLY is about how Kubrick signed a deal with the government to stage/film the Apollo 11 moon landing. Yeah, it's all revealed by "clues" in the 1980 movie.

It's actually a cooler theory than it sounds, and it reminded me I need to read/see "The Shining" again.

    "The Five-Year Engagement."

It had its moments of humor, mostly because there are some funny people involved. Ultimately, just a repackaged romantic comedy with the same beats as any other one, just better executed.

One enormous gripe: If you're going to find it irresistible to play the, "Flyover country is so miserable and unsophisticated for a person coming from one of the coasts!!11!!" card over and over again, maybe you should pick a city other than essentially the most livable, highly educated, cultured small city in middle America (Ann Arbor).

    Just saying.

Saw Killer Joe... Pretty damn good... Dark, but good...

Damn good acting by McConaughey, Thomas Haden Church and Gina Gershon. It's NC-17 basically for one scene that was completely over the top and unnecessary. I think if they had taken that scene out, more people would have gone to see it.

McConaughey has had quite the impressive stretch as of late.

Death Wish. But I was somewhat amused by Bronson's portrayal as a vigilante. All 11 people he killed were either coming at him with a knife or gun. Every killing was legit self defense.

Saw Argo. Moviemaking at its finest. Give Affleck the director Oscar right now.

I was trying to explain that to my Brazilian expat neighbor. She kept gasping about why would someone move to Michigan and snow and woods and cold, etc., etc.

My experience watching the movie was upgraded from merely funny to utterly hilarious thanks to her over-the-top reactions to everything.

Just went to see Argo. I needed a movie to escape a tough week. I merely added to my stress, and my dislike for radical Islam. Fuck Iran. But one hell of a suspenseful movie.

Had insomnia the other night and flipped on "Apollo 18." Good plot but the herky-jerky editing turned me off. But it did wear me out so I could go to sleep.
