Saw Argo this afternoon and it was a very well-done movie, but I think Spielberg is going to have a LOT to say about the Best Director race.

Yeah. From their 2008(?) reunion show at O2 Arena in London.

Saw Seven Psychopaths yesterday. I was disappointed.

Had the exact same thought when I saw it, IJAG. I was on the field that day during The Drive, as I was for Red Right 88. Ugh...

The best-directed movie of the year is The Master, but Anderson won't win because TWC will instead throw its support behind David O. Russell and Silver Linings Playbook.

I predict that if any of the TWC films wins Best Director, Russell does.

But I don't think he does, either. It'll be one hell of a horse race. Ang Lee has Pi, Biaglow has Zero Dark Thirty, Hooper has Les Miz, Jackson has Hobbit and look for Hyde Park on the Hudson, too.

My guess for best director, right now, not knowing box office: Lee.

Any chance DDL wins No. 3?

The Master being ignored at the Box Office certainly won't help it's Oscar chances... It's not to say it had to be a hit, (think Hurt Locker), but it seems pretty widely forgotten, which is probably not a good sign.

I haven't seen either movie, but everybody I know seems to like Argo a lot better than The Master.

Wife and kid are out of town Friday and Saturday this week. I absolutely have to make my way to a theater to see "Argo." Maybe Saturday matinee before Georgia-Florida. I'll try to hop on here and compare and contrast afterward.

My wife and I went to see Argo on opening night. It was sold out. I was so pissed... I get to the theater for non-child movies so rarely that it will be at least a month before I get a chance to see it.

Of course the theater was wide open when I saw the wildly overrated Looper a couple weeks before...

  11. Saw Argo on Saturday. I loved it. I loved the pacing, I loved the comedic touches, the acting was strong, just a really well done movie. A movie like that would be so easy to make you sit on pins and needles the whole time but I really thought they did a terrific job of building the suspense all the way through until the climax. It's the best movie I've seen this year but there are a lot of strong entries on the way. This fall/winter alone we have major flicks coming in Lincoln, The Hobbit, Zero Dark Thirty, Life of Pi, Django Unchained and probably others I'm forgetting. Should be a good time for movies.

Anybody watch "The Girl" on HBO Saturday night? It stars Toby Jones as Alfred Hitchcock and Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren.

I've got it DVR'd, but haven't watched yet. Too much football going on this weekend ...
