If Eisenberg's character was shot in the head while talking on his cell phone, that would have made the movie a lot better.

    Argo

Affleck might get some Academy love for that movie.

I've seen the movie several times.
The first time I saw it, I was a teenager with a head full of mushrooms.
    Wild.

I finally saw the new Spider-Man movie which I thought was fantastic.

Probably the best movie I've seen this year.

Cashback - it's a British movie about a guy who can stop time, and uses it primarily to de-clothe women and draw pictures of them. Kinda weird, and a decent but not really good or awful movie.

We saw 'Paranormal Activity 4' last night.
I really enjoyed the first three installments. I was kind of disappointed in this latest.

I've heard this, too. I almost saw it last night but some other things came up. If you look at the aggregate scores on sites such as Rotten Tomatoes, critics agree this one is definitely the weakest in the series.

There's certainly differences, but when you look at these sprawling mythology unique horror flicks (essentially I'm looking at "Saw" here), the fourth flick is where it starts to dip.

  9. The ladyfriend and I have been to see a few movies this month. Here are the quicker reviews...

Pitch Perfect: Pretty decent, actually. Funny enough and the acapella music is interesting, although it is a little stiff in its attempt to be edgy and such. Still, you can do a lot worse.

Looper: I really liked this one, especially Bruce Willis, who I thought was the best person in the film. For my money, JGL is a great 1b/2-level guy, but he seems to be JUSTTHISMUCHLESS than being a leading man. Plus, the altered face they used to make him look like "Young Bruce Willis" made him look more like Jon Hamm. So that bothered me.

Here Comes The Boom: Harmless enough, but nothing to shell out money for. Kevin James is solid in it, but while it seems like everyone has fun, no one pushes the film forward. Just nice to see something James is in not totally suck.

Perks of Being a Wallflower: Very, very good as far as I'm concerned. The best of the four by quite a bit.

The 'Paranormal' back story is fine. They've done a better job with it than I would've expected.
But these movies work if the gags are good. The first three were entertaining because they were surprisingly creative within the conceit - found home video footage.
And I'm not as interested in creatively explaining the existence of the video footage as I am in the gags - are they creative, surprising, unexpected, etc. That's where this installment fell short. Maybe it's run its course. It certainly has been a lucrative franchise.

    Not good.

There was way too much going on and the story suffered big time. The premise is that people are connected over time through love, hate, actions and inactions. I think there's sort of a reincarnation aspect, too. So, for a movie that's supposed to be about connections, the filmmakers didn't do a good job connecting any of the many, many storylines and characters. The movie jumps to and from times and places were sloppily done and I was often confused at the reasoning behind these jumps. I'm fine with non-linear storytelling (loved Memento and LOST), but this was not good. As a result, the character development suffered and I had zero connection with any of the characters. When emotional events happened, I didn't feel much for the characters involved. Also, about a third of the characters spoke in such a way that I had no idea what they were talking about, be it thick accent or some half-language of some futuristic people.

    I would not recommend it.

Saw Seven Psycopaths last night. Quite enjoyed. I liked the concept, a little different from the norm. A bit predictable, but still carried me to the end. Solid performances from the four mains -- Christopher Walken, Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson. I do recommend.
