The mention of Aniston on the Sepinwall threat has prompted an afternoon viewing of Rumor Has It via Amazon Video on Demand.

Great writing, and McLean hit almost every one of her lines out of the park.

Finally saw Savages. Good flick. Reminded me of Into the Wild with the voiceovers.

    Two kids movies:

    "Arthur Christmas."

Reminiscent of "Hop" in its remarkable imagining of the process behind the magic. Fairly tedious once the plot gets going along - you know where we're headed. But a fun journey most of the time.

    "Brave."

Nice effort by Pixar following its consensus worst film, "Cars 2." A lot was made about this being their first female protagonist. But also a rare Pixar movie with human protagonists. Well, mostly (you'll know what I'm talking about, but I don't want to give anything away). "Game of Thrones" for kids. Some stunning visuals of animated medieval landscapes. And the main character's hair was a character unto itself. I suspect we'll be revisiting this world again.

Pulp Fiction was in theaters nationwide last night only. And of course I went. I had to see it on the big screen and in HD. So cool. The audience was into it. Laughing, clapping, and even cheering at times.

    Re: Romcoms

You all are right about how they turn out. Which is why "500 Days of Summer" is just freakin' cool. Because it's real.

I'm still thinking about 'Groundhog Day' and why I've never thought of it as a romantic comedy.

Look at 'Wedding Crashers.' The central plot arc is: guy meets girl, guy loses girl, guy and girl get together at the end.
But does anybody think of 'Wedding Crashers' as a romantic comedy?

I think the distinction is one of focus. Is it a comedy that uses the romantic plot to deliver jokes? That's what 'Wedding Crashers' does. So does 'Old School.' So does 'Groundhog Day,' I think.

'Moonstruck' is a romance that is often funny, but it's main intent is to deliver the story of the two people who fall in love.

But they cop out by telling us at the outset that they aren't going to end up together!

I don't often watch romantic comedies but I loved Moonstruck and enjoyed 500 Days of Summer. Another old one I liked was IQ, but mostly the parts with Einstein and his buddies.

I really enjoyed this movie, but this genre is kind of getting saturated, what with Weeds and Breaking Bad and ... I'm sure there are others. But yeah, Savages was very entertaining.

Saw Life of Pi last night. Tried to read the book first, but at least the first part was a slow go for me, and I wanted to see the movie on the big screen. It's just a beautiful movie. Beautifully shot. Beautifully structured. Enthralling. The only thing I was left wanting was a tiger v. great white confrontation. But that's for another movie. This was just fantastic.

First time I saw it I thought it was blah except for 2 fantastic scenes.

Second time I saw it I liked it on a whole much better but it still felt like there was a hole.

I really liked it, too. Did you watch it in 3D?
There were a couple 3D shots that were beautiful, but mostly I found the 3D distracting.
Ebert loved the 3D. Says it's better than 'Avatar.'

Anyway, the book is wonderful. Just really great.

Let me add my voice to the chorus of praise to Lincoln. Day-Lewis especially. Simply amazing.
