    The Impossible.

It sorta reminded me of my year's favorite, Argo, in that I knew the outcome of the story, but the production and the acting kept me riveted.

Saw The Hobbit tonight, quite good. Thought it dragged a bit in the middle, but the last hour or so was excellent. Not sure it will match LOTR but it will still be quite good.

Did you see it in the 48fps version, or plain 3D?

What a disappointment, with long stretches that don't ring anywhere close to true. Jason Segel must have written most of those jokes on the set of Freaks and Geeks.

Edit to add: It's also over two hours long. Way too long for simple comedy with not much to say. My wife and I spent the last 85 minutes pointing out different scenes that could have been cut.

I talked about this movie earlier on the thread. Couple major issues for me:

    * Felt totally artificial. Just get married. Boo hoo. You aren't living exactly where you want to live right now. Neither were we.
    * Portraying one of America's most sophisticated, cultured college towns as a Gumpish midwestern cowtown required a suspension of disbelief too far for me to buy.

Just the regular 3D, still a good show

Good info, including where to find a 48fps version, here:

Saw the 48fps version of the Hobbit in 3D today.

Loved it, though it did drag at times.

The 48fps probably can't become the industry standard... it's just too jarring for most viewers. It takes a while to get used to the seemingly unnatural movements. At times it looks like one of those crappy late-90's movies that started filming in digital (I feel Wild Things is a good example of this weird effect).

It certainly makes the action scenes even more impressive, but the more mundane scenes are weird looking. People look like they are moving in fast forward.

    Red Dawn. The new one.

Was entertained. But too much bombast and montage, and would not have minded 10 more minutes of character. Put some nice twists on some moments from the original.

Rented Sparkle on DVD. I thought it was pretty good.

Finally got around to seeing "Lincoln". Incredible. DDL and Tommy Lee Jones were magnificent.
    Spielberg nailed it.

Still need to see "Argo" and am anxiously awaiting "Zero Dark Thirty."

Saw "Skyfall" and it is neck and neck with "Casino Royale" among my favorite Bond flicks.

Kiddoes both enjoyed "Rise of the Guardians" and "Wreck it Ralph". "Wreck it Ralph" brought back tons of childhood arcade memories, including the placing of your quarter on the screen to signify that you had the next game.

Saw "The Hobbit" in 3D and HFR or whatever that is. Amazing. It's like sitting in the front row of a Broadway play. You really feel you are there. Not sure I'd want to do it for every movie but this one was thoroughly enjoyable.
