Saw "Life of Pi" this afternoon and loved it. Just a beautiful movie in every way. I will also add that the 3D was a revelation for me. As someone who doesn't have stereo vision, finally being able to experience a 3D movie is amazing.

I'd agree with that. He had two or three scenes with Nolte in that movie that were among his best work.

So will the Academy. It'll win Best Picture because of the Weinstein push and the torture hand-wringing in Zero Dark Thirty.

God I'm so glad you brought this up. I heard about 10 minutes of it while driving home last night. It was the most awkward interview ever, and I say that as someone who thinks Terry Gross is horrible.

I think they'll split the difference: "Lincoln."

I saw it in the theater in 1984.
No need to see it again.

Interesting listen so far, but the more I hear Tarantino the more I can hear Waltz's inflections impersonating Tarantino during Basterds and Django.

My girlfriend and I had the same double dip last night and I agree with your whole post.

The Hobbit was good, but should have been 2h15m, instead of three hours. There weren't necessarily entire scenes I would have cut, but Jackson could have cut two or three minutes off most scenes and come in at 2h15m pretty easily. The Goblin chase reminded me of the dinosaur chase in King Kong. Fun at first, but by the 10th minute or whatever, you're kind of rooting for everyone to fall to their deaths so it will end.

It also had a LOT of overlap with the LOTR trilogy in terms of scenes that seemed like they were just lifted from one of the first three films with the new characters digitally inserted.

What was the part that you heard?

The funniest part, I think, is the end when he talks about his "hot" mom and growing up in a "United Nations" kind of home and the experiences that provided. If his mom, indeed, slept with Wilt, then that story is gold.

I definitely didn't hear that part. I heard him talking about the types of violence in the movie and the issues/sensitivities in filming the various slave scenes.
