Has anyone seen "Beasts of the Southern Wild"? If so, other than the little girl's excellent performance, can you explain what I missed? Because I thought it was an awful mess and don't get the love for it.

Premium Rush - Decent chase film. Plot is a little stupid. Dania Ramirez is a stunner.

    Krull.

Just starting on the Bad Movie Channel.

Eight-year-old me is settling in for the fun.

  5. Pitch Perfect. My wife bought the Blu-Ray. It's entertaining, but wouldn't call it great cinema.

The sound the creatures made when they died creeped me the fuck out when I was young.

I think that the establishment of place was really well-done. I kept wondering: Does this place really exist? If so, how incredible. I've seen it compared quite a bit to "Winter's Bone" in that respect. To me, it seemed like a much more well done "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," with a child processing her relationship with her parents after a disaster. There 9/11. Here, presumably, Katrina.

I wouldn't call it an awful mess like you did, but I don't know that I'd have it as a Best Picture nominee or top 10 of the year, either, as many do. Usually I don't like voice over narration, but I thought it worked really well here, because you had the more sophisticated thoughts being experienced by the 5-year-old juxtaposed with the much simpler outward articulation of those thoughts.

The Chicago radio guys I listen to on the way home some nights were running down their best lists an all three had a movie up high that I've heard almost nothing about, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Anyone seen it?

Haven't seen it, but it's in my Netflix queue. Can't put my finger on why, though. Coming-of-age type, I guess. It's been awhile since I've seen the previews but I think it revolves around a school.

Saw 'Wallflower' in the theatre and really loved it. Didn't know a thing about it (I'm a little older than the target audience) but was curious to see Emma Watson's performance. Main character is a boy who returns to school after being hospitalized for serious depression who makes some unconventional friends.
