So you were the one person who didn't hear that rumor before the movie came out? I must confess, I'm not sure if I would have guessed that on my own or not.

  2. I didn't hear any rumors either. I was surprised by it when I saw it. Didn't even make the possible connection. I never read the comics either so I guess I didn't know much about the Batman universe aside from the other movies.

    Silver Linings Playbook, last night.

It was nice. No all-time great; pretty predictable. But nice work by Cooper and Lawrence.

"Rock of Ages" via Netflix last night.

Not gonna lie, I did a whole lot of eye-rolling during the flick, but when all was said and done, I actually kinda liked it. Of course it helps that my musical tastes are similar to our old board friend BYH.

"Columbiana," in keeping with my current theme of ass-kicking in general and ass-kicking women in particular.

Wanted to be a Tony Scott movie, I think, and wasn't a bad approximation.

End of Watch. I don't know why I watched it. There was profanity and lots of it. If you want profanity as entertainment, George Carlin is a much better choice. If you want profanity combined with gore and violence, Tarantino is a better choice.

That might be one of the best ledes of all-time.

"Super," (2010) directed by James Gunn. I'm indifferent about Rainn Wilson on The Office, but he does a good job here. Fascinating that Gunn is now going to direct a Marvel tentpole movie "Guardians of the Galaxy").

they're doing a 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie.
That seems like an odd choice.

Marvel is at that "can do no wrong" phase, where the next step is often to do something terribly wrong.

They've had some misfires in the past decade - both Hulks, both Fantastic 4s come to mind.
None of those were critical hits or box-office hits.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' was a pretty obscure title, and a pretty weird one.
At least it was when I was reading comics, which was, admittedly, a long, long time ago.

    Zero Dark Thirty.

Kathryn Bigelow's films hit me weird. They're good, Zero Dark Thirty was really good, but there's a documentary-like coldness to them. Hurt Locker was the same way. That's not a criticism they're just different.

Most of Zero Dark Thirty had a Day Of The Jackal-feel to it (told from one side instead of both), including the torture scenes, which is a compliment in this corner.

The torture scenes didn't bother me at all. I detest torture, and I don't advocate it, but we did it, it's a fact. It would be a whitewash not to include it in the movie. Since Bigelow's movies have a matter-of-fact, documentary feel, I didn't feel she was advocating torture or dismissing it within the narrative of the movie.

I thought Chastain was good, but not life-changing good, like I've heard some people describe her performance. The writing in Bigelow's movies dictate the acting, more so than in most movies. I don't think Chastain's acting rose above the script, which was obviously excellent, so she was already at a good starting point.

Glad I saw it on the big screen. The movie will lose some of its power on the small screen.
