Funny thing is The Heat was pushed back to early summer in order to give it some room after Identity Thief, which is the luckiest movie ever made -- lucky that the terrible reviews it received were ignored by a huge audience looking for something to see in theaters during a 6 week period when there's jack shit out in the market. The Heat actually IS funny, and critics really like it, and it will be a big hit -- bigger than IT.

But all will be dwarfed by Fast & Furious 6, which will be bigger than Oz The Great and Powerful.

Mea Maxima Culpa - I guess technically this is TV, but it's a great documentary on the corruption of the Catholic Church. Having been an altar boy for many years, I have been thinking back to that time since watching this movie. I don't think anything bad happened, but then again there was plenty of weird moments serving under various priests. Makes me wonder if I'm repressing some awful shit.

Saw Arbitrage and Flight - they actually are pretty much the same movie when you think about it.

Gere and Washington both can do the turn from unflappable and indignant about as well as it can be done.

There are some scenes where Washington just morphs from cocky to uncertain to pissed off so well. The guy does layers like few others.

Saw Hitchcock over the weekend. To have such a strong cast, I thought it was pretty run-of-the-mill as biopics go.

I dig Sam Raimi. Is 'Oz' going to be good?

I'm fully expecting it to me heavy on visuals and short on story... I'd be happy to be wrong...

I'm going to be curious to see how big it opens.

Worthy of Bergman. It's not Cries and Whispers, but it's in the ballpark.

On a hunch after reading about it, watched "Bernie" over the weekend. Surprisingly interesting story and format. Based on true events documented in a very good Texas Monthly article.

    Liked it. Would recommend.

Was dragged to see Parental Guidance over the weekend...

I would rather listen to a fork being scraped on a chalkboard than have to watch Billy Crystal act.

Not a horrible film as a whole, but I can't think of anything I've enjoyed Crystal in over the last 20 years. I liked When Harry Met Sally and he was great in Princess Bride, but he is just painful to watch.

I just watched the second Sherlock Holmes movie. It was crap.

Saw Looper. Really enjoyed Brick, but Rian Johnson's movie scores (done by his brother) always end up putting me to sleep with their synthesizers. Looper is okay, but I was expecting more. It's actually one of those quiet films, sporadically interrupted by gunfire.

I had a same reaction to Looper... Really liked aspects of it, but was expecting more based on the glowing reviews... There were aspects of it that were really tough to watch as a parent...
