I had to go out of town for training last week and after dinner a bunch of us went to see Olympus Has Fallen...

Not what I was expecting at all... I was expecting some PG-13 toned down action wanna be, which is what we usually get and it was definitely not that...

Tons of action, tons of violence, just a good popcorn movie.

It was also predictable and had more than it's share of cheesy one-liners, but I really enjoyed it, which I did not expect to.

Watching The Bad and the Beautiful with Kirk Douglass. Kind of like a cross between Ace in the Hole with Citizen Kane, and a great cast including Lana Turner and wait! Barbara Billingsley as a costume designer. Douglass plays a down on his luck movie producer seeking one last shot with three people he worked with early on, but chewed up and spit out. It's told through flashbacks.
    Great lines:
"My first novel, on which I had labored for seven years, was just out. Surprisingly for a scholarly work on early Virginia, it was doing a brisk nationwide sale - possibly because it was liberally peppered with sex. Because, after all, early Virginia was liberally peppered with sex. Could that have been why Hollywood bought it?"

"Because he was a drunk, you're a drunk. Because he loved women, you're a tramp. But you forget one thing: he did it with style."

And my favorite - after Douglass gives Turner her first big break despite her being a drunk: "No more doomed daughter, No more whimpering, and no more drinking."
    Turner: "And no more men?"
    Douglas: "By and by..."

I simultaneously hated and liked "The Comedy"

I get the feeling that was the purpose of the film. I will say that Tim Heidecker is a better actor than I thought possible, though. He purposely acts badly in everything else so I didn't realize he actually had range before seeing this.

  4. This is pretty much word for word how I felt about it. Definitely over the top but absolutely kept me entertained.

Yeah, it was very refreshing to see a good old-fashioned R-rated action film.

Heat has been on our cable system nonstop for some reason. Each time pern posts something, I chuckle.

Zero Dark Thirty - Awesome in the theater, even better on Blu-Ray in the surround system. Great performance, gripping detective story and the raid was one of the best sequences I've seen in a movie.

Checked out some brief parts of 'Pineapple Express' on DirecTV last night.
    Such a funny movie.

And the dubbed language both ruins it and makes it better.

    Don't be such a casserole!

I'm fond of it, but I understand those who hate the thing.

It was one of those movies that I thought an update could actually add to it, but holy crap did they ever whiff on that one. Just absolutely atrocious.
