Exiting the theater, I couldn't help thinking how crappy a "new" White House would look today if it was started from scratch.

I just saw it, too. It was a long journey to get to that final scene, which I think they did wonderfully.

It's not Goodfellas or Shawshank, but a solid movie. I thought it moved a little too slow for a Best Picture, but, damn, if that lead actress isn't just stunningly beautiful.

I would have back loaded it more to the men and the final night. That would have been more interesting than torturing guys for the first 30-40 minutes of the movie.

Honestly, I liked Skyfall more for pure entertainment. They did a very nice transition and have set it up nicely for 007 to give way to a new 007 in a film or two. I just wish they could have gotten Sean Connery to play the Albert Finney role.

I thought Skyfall was excellent. It was my first Daniel Craig Bond movie. How are the others?

Casino Royale vastly superior to Quantum of Solace.

Seconded. I actually think Casino Royale is the best of the three Daniel Craig Bond movies, but it and Skyfall are vastly superior to Quantum.

Watched a History of Violence for the first time last night. I enjoyed it even if the acting was pretty terrible outside of Vigo Mortisen or however you spell his name.

I'll second this ... having accompanied Mrs. Coco to all of the Twilight films, the Host is more entertaining than all of them combined.

An interesting twist on "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" type-movies.

Huh. Who, exactly, did you have a problem with? William Hurt hammed it up a bit, I thought, in what actually reads as a pretty good Tony Kornheiser impression.

"Casino Royale" is fantastic. "Quantum of Solace" is a direct follow-up, rare for the Bond series, but the quality really dropped from director Martin Campbell to Marc Forster. Quantum is barely 100 minutes, short for a Bond film, and it's poorly edited. A lot of shaky cam, and it's hard to tell where chase participants are in relation to each other.

Saw the new "Evil Dead" yesterday. Uff-da. I'm glad I saw it as it's a good film -- with a first-time director remaking a horror classic, no less! -- but I'm not really in a hurry to see it again. That movie earns every inch of its R rating. Three or four people walked out of the showing I attended. Still, if you're a fan of horror or just want to spend 90 minutes feeling profoundly uncomfortable, I'd recommend seeing it.

Oh, and as always, stay through the credits.

Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are both co-producers, so I imagine that helps.

Being an "officially licensed" remake certainly doesn't hurt, though it didn't do much for Day of the Dead. I wonder how much of what is on screens now was floating around Raimi's head when he made the original at 19.
