The coolest parts of the book wouldn't have translated very well to film. I loved the book. I agree with the assessment that the movie is loud and I might not go as far as to say, bad, but mediocre.

The CGI is amazing though and holds up 20 years later. I was going to take my oldest to see it in 3D, but they showed it for free on Encore last weekend, so we just watched it in HD on the 60-inch tv for free, rather than dropping $12 per ticket.

    Is your 3-year-old actually a 45-year-old?

Nope. He just possesses Dick Whitman's critical eye, which causes him to overthink everything.

I'm trying to think who Dick's opposite would be when it comes to entertainment. I guess it would be shotglass.

I'm going to see "The Lords of Salem" this weekend, willingly. I'll report back.

Bingo. I've seen this film jeez tens of times, from the original in the theatre to the numerous times with the kids but seeing it in IMAX 3D was truly amazing. It looked better than many original 3D movies I've seen.

Now Oblivion in IMAX certainly looks intriguing.

Saw about half of Prometheus ... can't decide if I need to give it a full shot or whether it was boring.

If you're watching for beautiful cinematography, give it a full shot.

If you're watching in expectation of a coherent, well-written movie, save yourself the trouble.

I liked 'Prometheus.' It is visually compelling, and the themes and ideas with which it wrestles are compelling.
    The narrative, not so much.
