Now I'm interested. I thought this was another excuse for someone to film crazy, violent deaths.

To clarify: I have no problem with the violence in "Django." I'm definitely not one of those people. I thought it was over the top and I thought it was funny. It was gross, yes. But hilariously gross.

The two scenes that were disturbing were the slave fight and the dogs attacking the slave.
Neither was as gorey or graphic as other scenes. The violence was implied but much more real.

Saw Oblivion last night and was pleasantly surprised. When I first saw the trailers I thought no way, but the cast convinced me to give it a try. Pretty entertaining movie, even though some things were telegraphed, and the eye candy wasn't bad.

I have never been a fan of Jon Stewart's version of 'The Daily Show.'
Has he lost any standing by having cuckoo Tom Cruise on the show but not asking Cruise any questions?

I've watched "Heat" twice this week on the Encore channels, and it remains one of the best movies of the last 25 years. One huge plot hole jumped out at me this time, though, and it's bugging me. Maybe someone can put my mind at ease.
How did Waingro know about the bank job?
He was the linchpin that brought the whole operation down. He told Henry Rollins, who tipped off the police, but how did Waingro know? He only did the one job with Neil's crew and then they were ready to kill him. That all went down before Neil even found out about the bank job, so it's not like one of the other guys could have mentioned it before they cut ties with him.
Great movie, major plot hole. Or did I just miss something?

Also, an aside ... There's about 10 Encore channels on my cable system. The other night, one of them was showing "Heat" -- the 1995 DeNiro/Pacino classic -- at the same time another one was showing the 1987 "Heat" starring Burt Reynolds. Felt like I was in some kind of odd movie vortex.

I think they tortured Trejo's girl and she spilled it. Remember when Neil went to the house on stilts and found Trejo all messed up? Trejo said, "They had Anna." So, apparently Waingro broke in the house, tortured Anna, then got Trejo to give up their next score then killed Anna anyway. She was laying on the bed in the scene.

I may have to watch Heat again tomorrow after work, really a great film.

Continuing my trek through last year's Best Picture nominees.
Watched Zero Dark Thirty tonight. Good flick. Hard to really get into it knowing how it was going to end but I liked it better as a flick than Argo but nowhere near as close as Django.
Three solid flicks though. Can't wait to watch the rest.

Oh, and I also saw Pain & Gain today. While I love the Rock, this movie sucked ass. I enjoy Michael Bay films for what they are--convoluted "stories" that serve as an excuse to blow stuff up but apart from a few funny lines, this is the very definition of a forgettable film.
If you're on the fence for this one, skip it and rent it instead. Not worth a full-price ticket.

That sounds like it might be right. Trejo talks so low in that scene that it's hard to make out what he's saying.
That explanation makes sense, but throws another wrench into the timeline:
    • Trejo was supposed to be the getaway driver, but couldn't shake the surveillance. He calls Neil at the diner, presumably a few minutes before the rest of the crew leaves for the bank. The heist is referenced as starting at 11:30, so let's say the phone call comes in at 11 and he left the house between 10 and 10:30.
    • Trejo then drives off to parts unknown to lead the cops away from the others. Safe to assume he'd do this until the job was supposed to have been completed, perhaps an hour or more.
    • The cops are tipped off not more than a few minutes before the bank heist starts. Yet there's enough time to assemble several dozen police officers and set up roadblocks (all without radio traffic, which is another issue). So say they get the tip 15-20 minutes before the crew walks into the bank and are in place as they're walking out at 11:35 or 11:40. The tip would have come in around 11:15.
Does that mean Waingro was at Trejo's house torturing Anna as soon as Trejo left? He'd have to get the info, call Henry Rollins, who would then have to call the cops, and then the right cop would have to get the information to the right person. That could take some time. Anna would've had to spill her guts pretty quickly -- and know at least a couple of specific details about what Trejo was working on beyond "some bank job" -- to get word to the cops in time.
She would've had to know what bank and at what exact time. Even if Trejo told her it was "a bank job on Friday morning," that's still pretty vague. The tip included the bank and the time. Was it mentioned that Trejo and Anna talked about Trejo's scores? Maybe during the earlier dinner scene and I missed it?

Seems a bit of a stretch. It doesn't ruin the movie for me. It's just bugging me.

This was my dilemma tonight. Pain & Gain, Olympus Has Fallen or Jurassic Park 3D. Just couldn't get excited about seeing Pain & Gain and wanted to see something I hadn't before, so Olympus won out.
It was alright. Would not call it a cinematic masterpiece by any stretch. It was basically Die Hard (the original) meets Sum of All Fears and with North Koreans. But not as good. Dragged a little too much, and a few too many points where they just tried a little too hard. I give it 2 1/2 out of five.
Almost think I should have gone and relived a bit of my childhood tonight.

Oh, boy I've got "Lifeforce" on the DVR from Encore last night.
I hope the DVR didn't chew it up.

They had me at hot naked space vampire. Did I mention hot? And naked?
