I just finished Iron Man 2 and while the story is a lot better than I remember it, Whiplash was a pretty shitty villain.
I mean, I love the idea of the 'Tony Stark thinks he's going to die' storyline and his actions make much more sense when looked at through that plot device but Whiplash was a pretty shitty foe for him to have to battle and the final boss scene was anticlimactic at best.
I can only hope IM3 has a villain that doesn't completely suck. Guess we'll see soon...

No offense, but were you serious when saying a movie that came out just five years ago 'holds up well'?

One of the strong points of Iron Man was that it worked for the comic book geeks like myself and those who didn't know anything about the character going in. The weak villain isn't a killer for an origin story and Downey was outstanding.

Iron Man 2 was very disappointing. Downey was good again, but the story and villain just weren't good enough.

I've read and heard very good things about Iron Man 3. Hope to see it this weekend.

Iron Man may have only come out in 2008 but that's an eternity when you're talking about a cinematic universe that's produced five movies since then. I was worried the first flick would have dragged compared to the fast paced Avengers collaboration but was pleasantly surprised that, despite knowing how things were going to progress and would ultimately play out, it was still a good ride.

Now, having said that, I just got out of Iron Man 3 and I enjoyed the heck out of it ... but that's because I hadn't seen a single trailer for this movie before hand.
Had I seen the trailers, I would be MIGHTY pissed right now. As I'm sure many people will be when they look back on this flick.
I won't spoil it here but let's just say one of the core elements of this movie is going to be VERY polarizing.
You'll know it when you see it.
I liked it because I was ignorant to the source material and hadn't had any expectations for the flick but had I seen the trailer and the twist played out the way it did, I would be VERY mad right now.
Hell, the more I think about it, the more annoyed I get.
Still, good flick. A great follow-up on the Avengers and a great kick start to Phase Two. Can't wait till November when we get Thor 2 as the first Thor still stands as my favorite flick from Marvel thus far (I know, I know but I love the character).
    7/10

If Marvel spoiled the twist the way I think they did, I'm going to be annoyed. I'll report back once I've seen it.

    Just saw Iron Man 3.

No idea if this is a spoiler, but to be safe...

Not sure what twist everyone is talking about. I'd think the very, very very end of the movie -- after the credits, of course, and after the after-credits bit -- would clear up a contract-related twist.

That's not the twist that's got people up in arms. It's the one involving the way a certain character was portrayed. I've been reading fan reactions and they are NOT happy. Not at all.
The more I think about it, and having just seen the trailers, I am on their side. It takes away from the way I felt about the movie. PM me if you're still not sure.

I enjoyed the first 'Iron Man.' Fun movie.
The second one sucked. I'm glad I waited until it hit cable/DirecTV.
Third one can wait until Netlfix or DirecTV.

I forgot Jeff Bridges was in the first one. I liked him in the role. I would like to see the third one get away from "bad guy gets his own Iron suit and fights Stark." I've seen that ending twice now, once with Bridges and once with Mickey Rourke.

Bridges was rocking a great look, though. Shaved head with the very full but well trimmed beard.
I rocked that look for my nieces wedding last summer as an homage to Bridges.

I saw Iron Man 3 this afternoon. I was more than happy with the story while the special effects were pretty good as well.

It definitely moves the story arc forward and with a number of references to The Avengers movie, it doesn't forget what has already happened in the series.

There is an interesting scene after the credits end. . . which just about everybody stayed for. . . but it isn't in the class of the scene from the original Iron Man. Though I did laugh at it.

The flick is well worth seeing.

Saw it today as well. Christmas setting, a Lethal Weapon white guy and black guy buddy-cop vibe at one particular scene ... this had Shane Black's fingerprints all over it. It was more like an old-fashioned cop action movie than a comic book movie.
