No. It's a movie that had "Oscar-winning opportunity" written all over it. Lee likes movies where he can push the technical/visual boundaries. His "Hulk" is ultimately a failure, but it's far more interesting visually than 99% of the comic book movies that have come out since then.

It gets beat up because it's Mal's rescue mission of Cobb, and this is nearly impossible to discern.

The locations seemed pretty generic (with a few distant skylines tossed in) but it didn't really bother me. I was more focused on the cars.

If you're going to assign ulterior motives to movie-making decisions, I'd be more inclined to go with this: It is Ang Lee's attempt to wrest money from the religious right that he couldn't get out of them for Brokeback Mountain. To me that doesn't equate with an apology (though I can see where others might think it does.) Otherwise, I don't think Ang Lee gives two shits in the wind what the religious right thinks.

If that was the plot of the movie, it was worse than an edited-for-TV version of Showgirls

I just got back from Hangover 3. I wasn't really expecting a lot, but it was pretty dull. Don't waste your money at the theater.

Watched Promised Land on DVD...entertaining enough as a well-acted drama. A little dull but anything that would have sparked some action would have taken away from the pace of the story. And it's not as clear-cut a story as it seems.

Saw two depressing ass movies in "Celeste and Jesse Forever" and "This is 40."
The former was kind of meh. Nothing special really but I thought a good look at a couple that takes each other for granted but I couldn't have cared less for Andy Samberg's character. He does nothing for me when he's not with the Lonely Island or in a parody.
The latter, I felt, was VERY good and very realistic. I laughed pretty hard at a good chunk of the movie and, for maybe the first time in a movie like this, actually liked the kids and thought they were funny additions to the plot.

I wonder if it is because they are Apatow and Leslie Mann's kids. I normally am not a fan of kids in movies, especially precocious ones, but the family did seem really natural and had good chemistry on screen.

I don't know but the young one had me in stitches, especially the scene with the "haunted cow."
I have never laughed that hard at something that stupid. It was so silly but yet felt genuinely funny.

Iron Man 3 - kind of Memorial Day tradition to hit the theater. The movie was okay, watched the 3D version - but even with that (and the popcorn and soda) I can't say it was a good value (even at a matinee.
I can see theaters having the same problems as the NFL - home screens and sound are so good, theaters are going to offer more than a "six-month advance screening" to make the cost seem worthwhile.

  12. I don't know if there's a collection of more overrated comedies than The Hangover flicks. I have no problem if people enjoy them but I just don't think they're very funny.
