I'm interested in "The Purge" as well. Sounds like some kind of crazy John Carpenter premise, so I'm totally sold.

I am sure it is on his Wiki page but so sad that Ngor survived the killing fields and then was killed while living in LA iirc.

Ifyou can track it down I highly recommend Swimming to Cambodia. It is a filmed monolgue by Spalding Grey that I think is absolutely rivetting. Grey had a bit part in The Killing Fields and talks about Cambodia and South East Asia in his monolgue, really worth the effort to find it.

Took the kids to see a double feature of The Croods and Epic...

For a kid's movie, Croods was solid and fun.

Epic was a pretty big disappointment. A few funny moments, most of which were in the previews, but takes itself way too seriously for a kid's movie.

I'm being a geek and having a Nolan-fest this week. Three Bat-flicks and Inception.

"Batman Begins" is eight years old. It sure holds up a hell of a lot better than Burton's Bat-movies. Even the Raimi "Spider-Man" movies have their share of cringe-worthy moments. Nolan's played this stuff so straight-forward.

Saw "The Internship" on Sunday. It's getting pilloried by the critics, but I really enjoyed. Vince Vaughn's high-speed banter always slays me.

  8. I felt the same way. Was it a bit formulaic? Absolutely. But I thought Vaughn/Wilson still had good enough chemistry to overcome it. It's not super hilarious or anything but I thought it was worth my time and money.

    Over the weekend:

Django. Seemed to have a lot of Blazing Saddles homage to it. Really enjoyed it, though a family flick it's not. Tarantino's cameo seemed a bit longer than normal.

Identity Thief. Shoulda gone with Mrs. Novelist's veto on this one (she was out of town). Had its moments, but overall blech.

Watched a doc called Knuckleball! on Netflix. Interesting examination of the careers of R. A. Dickey and Tim Wakefield. Cool how they got them together with several other notable knuckleballers, including Neikro and Charlie Hough.

Interesting to see back to back good reviews of it. The three people I know who saw it called it the worst movie they've seen this year. I did get the sense they have pretty high (and perhaps unrealistic) expectations going into it.

The most excited I am about a movie this summer is "This is the end"

    The reviews are fantastic.

I've got sneak peek tickets to see that tonight. I'll report back on how I thought it was but I don't have high hopes.
