The plane crash was dumb, but there was a lot of dumb stuff at the WHO research lab, too.
    It's just lazy writing.

Surely a lot of the Israeli soldier's scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. Still not sure about her purpose. That might be the one clue about the massive re-write.

People like working with Sandler. Most of his movies are garbage, but they make a lot of money and people seem to like the guy.

I wasn't surprised to see Aniston in one of his movies. She's had very few movies that were successful at the box office and some of them had very little to do with her being in them (Bruce Almighty, Marley and Me...)

Kidman did surprise me since she doesn't seem to work that much lately. Sarandon's daughter was in That's My Boy, so that might have had something to do with her doing the movie.

Adam Sandler's statistics are insane. He can do whatever he wants in Hollywood for however long he wants to.

He's been an actor in 35 movies.

As the lead, 24 times, with a worldwide box office of $2,837,344,206
Lead ensemble, 4 times, with a WBO of $692,306,706
Supporting role, 4 times, with a WBO of $198,421,819
Cameo, 3 times, with a WBO of $120,421,819

That adds up to $3,848,496,943 -- three billion, eight hundred forty-eight million.

And to think he used to be this goofy dude:

And he was fired from SNL... He also has produced quite a few of his own movies, which means he's probably among the richest actors in Hollywood.

That's My Boy was probably his biggest bomb for a movie where he's making "An Adam Sandler comedy".

When movies like Grown Ups and I now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and You Don't Mess with the Zohan and Bedtime Stories, and Click are clearing $100 million, it's all him.

I think most of his recent movies are dreadful, but he probably has the best batting average in Hollywood. It's probably him or Will Smith. I'm guessing Grown Ups 2 will make more $$$ than After Earth, even though one probably cost a third of the price to make as the other.

Even when he "loses" he pretty much breaks even.

Funny People, which was a great movie, really was, had a $72.5M budget. WBO was just under $72M.

Spanglish's budget was $75M with a WBO of $54M, and that might sink some actors.

But then he comes back-to-back with $267M in profits from The Longest Yard ($82M budget) and Click ($82.5M).

    He's a unique quality.

Tyler Perry is similar to Sandler in that he's gotten filthy rich producing low-brow films with a built-in audience, although in Perry's case I'm not sure he's capable of making anything smarter. Even the semi-serious romance films he's made have been critically panned.

I actually liked "That's My Boy." Came off like a bunch of friends having a silly good time.

For a comparison, Pitt has been in 43 movies as an actor with a WBO of $5,982,692,972 -- and that's including WWZ with its $190M budget ($112M WBO thru 4 days).

Yeah, but he leaves a ton of money on the table with the kind of movies he sometimes makes. "Tree of Life" comes to mind. Even "Moneyball" was considered a huge bomb risk at the time. Sandler dips into arthouse occasionally, too, of course, i.e. "Punch Drunk Love." But "WWZ" is a departure for Pitt, not a standard role.

  11. So long as Sandler movies rake in the dough, he'll keep making them. The fact that there is a Grown Ups 2 speaks to that seeing as the first one was one of the worst pieces of crap I've ever seen.

Adam Sandler has had the career I assumed Mike Myers would have.
