From your list: Raging Bull, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Apocalypse Now

Three classics I would recommend that are not on your list: Jaws, Taxi Driver, Citizen Kane

My one suggestion for an old classic is It Happened One Night.

Off that list with the wife I would do:

    Cuckoo's Nest
    12 Angry Men
    Cool Hand Luke

Just watched 12 Angry Men on YouTube (technology, huh?). First time I've seen it in about 25 years.

What a gorgeous exhibit of the power of persuasion not to mention it's a movie they could show Journalism 101 students in regards to questioning facts even when they've been presented in a court of law.

Also, Lee Cobb looks like he could be Jason Segel's father:

    I saw The Heat yesterday...

It's funny. I laughed out loud several times...

That said, it's predictable and not nearly as funny as it could have been.

It's going to be interesting to see how long McCarthy can continue to be Box Office gold... Obviously, Bullock is still a box office draw, but the success of the mediocre, but funny Identity Thief, is an indication that McCarthy may be the biggest female box office draw when she's making a certain type of movie.

A friend compared her to Galiafianakis (sp?) meaning that she could be successful only playing that type of character that she's played in Bridesmaids, Identity Thief and The Heat.

I think she's more versatile than he is. Hell, she's funny on Mike and Molly and she's not playing that type of character on that show... Not that that show is a huge hit, but it does well enough to get a fourth season.

Sonner: Birth of a Nation, original director's cut. :D

Seriously, I'd recommend adding some Chaplin: The Kid, Modern Times or The Great Dictator.

Others -- North by Northwest, Psycho. You can hold off until Christmas to watch Miracle on 34th St.

  11. From your list:
    12 Angry Men
    Cool Hand Luke
    Godfather II

    I'd add.
Citizen Kane and a Humphrey Bogart movie - Casablanca, The Big Sleep, Maltese Falcon.

With your wife.. I'd skip Apocalypse Now.

Man of Steel in Imax 3D. Should have saved money on the Imax part, none of it looked like it was shot in Imax. 3D is still neat to me. Saw a 3D preview for Gravity. That one may make me nauseous.
