I checked my assessment against the critics just for cross-referencing purposes, and it looks like it's pretty accurate. The first one got 81 percent on RT.com. The second one is at 77 percent.

We took our 4-year-old. It was his second movie - we also saw "Monsters, Inc." a couple weeks ago. He was scared in a few places in "Despicable Me 2," particularly in the last half-hour where it gets pretty action-packed.

I can't tell whether he liked it or not. He's been talking about it non-stop and asking questions about it non-stop, but then he'll say he didn't like it. When I pushed him on it, though, he said, "I liked it at the movie theater, but not at home. When they send you the CD, you have to send it back, Daddy." (Apparently he thinks that Netflix sends me every movie. Every single one.)

But then when I told him there was a "Minions" movie coming out next year, he flashed a huge grin. So who knows?

    Kids are funny.

    Moonrise Kingdom. Sweet, wonderful movie.

Finally got around to watching Django unchained. Given the content I hate to use
the word enjoyable but it was very entertaining.

Did not realize that it was a cross between a comedy and a western. In a sense it was a more severe version of Blazing Saddles.

I had that thought about the similarities with Blazing Saddles, too.

Saw The Lone Ranger yesterday. Not surprising, really, that it bore a lot of similarities to the Pirates movies, particularly in the area of stunts. I could see where native Americans would find it demeaning, but I also saw where they explained Tonto's mental state pretty well.

It was worth of most the criticisms directed at it, but I found it entertaining anyway.

Apparently it is an epic box office flop.

I thought Monsters University was a lot better than the original.

Yep. I was way off on this one. I thought it would clear $100 million domestically in the five-day weekend. It did half that.

I saw "Pitch Perfect" this weekend. Hated every second of it.

I want to see it as well but man that hits a little too close to home (I work in Oakland and saw what happened in the aftermath.) Will probably still go see it.

Saw "White House Down"; pretty good fun, a little deeper than standard Michael Bay/Bruckheimer movies.

My 9-year-old loved it. It's her fault I can't get the Cup Song out of my head.

I read somewhere that they have a bigger role for the Minions in this one, which I'm sure will make it even more popular with the kids. Looking forward to taking my little one to see it this weekend.
