My wife wasn't as into it as I was, either. When I was watching it, I saw it as one of those movies that some people were going to love and a lot of people weren't going to get because they wouldn't connect with the characters. And my wife felt the same way about the end.

It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

Another in a long line of films in which a high-profile Hollywood actress plays a stripper and never gets naked. #falseadvertising

Blue is the Warmest Color - This is one of those films that's open to a lot of interpretation. Yeah, it has two or three very graphic lesbian sex scenes in it that border on the ridiculous, but it's really not about the difficulties of coming of age as a gay person or anything like that. I found it to be more of a discussion of how difficult it is to maintain a relationship with someone who is deeply involved in an artistic field as a regular working stiff (this working stiff being a good teacher who is treated like garbage by the pretentious painter).

I didn't see any significant chemistry between the two leads. Nothing led me to believe the two were ever in love, so it was really hard to draw any sort of emotion out of all of the drama that goes on throughout the film (the ending is quite good though). I had a hard time determining the time frame of the film as it starts when the teacher character is still in high school, but then accelerates without any indication of how much time has past (I think we're looking at around a decade, but I can't be sure. There are also no indicators as to when this is all taking place. It could very well be the '90s or early 2000s as no one is seen with cell phones or uses a computer in the entire film). Apparently the real title of the film is The Life of Adele, Chapter 1 and 2, which makes a hell of a lot more sense that Blue is the Warmest Color.

She wasn't really high-profile. I was thinking more of Salma Hayek in "From Dusk til Dawn," Jessica Alba in "Sin City" and Natalie Portman in "Closer."

I think "dystopian light ambition" is a high-falutin' way to say "it's a rip off of Lars and the Real Girl."

Watched "The Place Beyond the Pines" last night with great expectations and instead found myself dreadfully bored.

It was far too long and they spent too much time with Ryan Gosling's character. When the first act ended, I wondered how they were going to continue the movie and, much to my surprise, they basically added an entire second movie to fill out the 2:22 running time.

It kept hinting at getting better, so I stuck with it, and it just never did.

Very disappointing effort, despite the great cast.

A Netflix documentary that follows eight 7 and 8 year-old kids as they prepare for US Golf Championships in Pinehurst.
It was produced by Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel and feature the musical work of Mark Mothersbaugh.

It's nice, not great. The parents - surprisingly - are mostly normal. The kids are interesting. Anna Kournikova's little brother steals the show. But there are a lot of great golfers. I like the Sky Sudberry girl. Cute as a button. It looks like she uses full-size clubs as well - driver anyway. I didn't care for the French kid and his mom.

Jed Dy was interesting as well. BTW, he won the 2013 event for his age division.

It was much more feature/people/personality driven than a sports documentary.
My kids watched it as well. My oldest now wants to go golfing - again.
I'll be keeping tabs on these kids. Curious to see how many make it as pros or get burned out.
