If I had read this post after I walked out of the theater from seeing Miracle, I might have agreed, but upon further viewings, I don't think it was really Oscar material. Maybe Kurt Russell could have gotten a nod for Actor, but that was a pretty strong field that year.

Sean Penn deserved the Oscar, Ben Kingsley (House of Sand and Fog), Jude Law (Cold Mountain) and Bill Murray (Lost in Translation) were all amazing. Johnny Depp is Johnny Depp and his first turn as Jack Sparrow got so much hype, there was no way he wasn't getting nominated.

The Blind Side is among the worst Oscar-nominated movies, sports-themed or otherwise, that I've ever seen. Sandra Bullock winning Best Actress was a complete sham. I'd argue pretty vehemently that Carey Mulligan should've won by a mile that year.

Other than that, Ron, good list.

Thanks. I simply compiled a list of Oscar-nominated sports movies. I liked The Blindside and, it's funny about Bullock winning an Oscar in the same year she "won" a Razzie (for All About Steve - unfortunately a movie I had the displeasure of seeing). But, I will support my fellow East Carolina alum, Sandra Bullock, who was fantastic in Gravity.
As for Mulligan, she was definitely great in An Education, which is a very good movie.

I found Rush to be enjoyable but nothing special. I agree that the technical aspects were really good, but as a whole it definitely sits well below most of the best picture nominees I've seen from this year.

I'm not in any way arguing its merits as a Best Picture contender. It's just a movie that very few people saw that I thought was really good and worth watching.

  7. I haven't given anything anyway. I swear. If you think you know what happens based on my post, you are wrong. I guarantee it.

It's been out on DVD and cable/satellite for months.
If someone hasn't seen it, that's on him/her.

Or you could stop reading the minute you see the title of the movie.
