That final scene was the best acting of his career. Better than Philadelphia or Forrest Gump. And it was totally improvised.

I have no kids, but have still really wanted to see this. It looks like it's in the vein of the "Toy Story" movies or some of the early 90s Warner Brothers animation, where it's obviously a kids' movie but there's also enough subtle humor for adults to appreciate and enjoy.
Just have to convince my wife of the same thing so I'm not a creepy mid-30s guy hanging out in a theatre full of kids.

Saw an advanced screening of the new RoboCop movie last night. I liked it, but didn't love it. If you have low expectations, you'll probably enjoy the new RoboCop, but dont expect any cameos from the original. While entertaining, the new RoboCop is a shallow remake devoid of the many one-liners that made the original so much fun.

Like Redford's try this year, it was clearcut Oscar bait. Understood. But Hanks isn't winning another Best Actor award. He's got his pair, and DDL is a better actor.

I can't see how the last scene was Oscar bait considering that it was completely ad libbed. They filmed the scene differently and didn't like it and re-shot after moving to a different part of the ship with actual crew members and Hanks just winging it.

And who cares about DDL? I didn't say Hanks was better than him. All I said was that was one of the best acted scenes in the last 10 years? Never said Hanks was the greatest out there.

Good to know. I enjoyed the first two because of just how downright satirical they were. Movies just aren't made like that anymore. But, my local theater is doing $5 Tuesdays, so it's cheaper than the eventual iTunes rental. A good excuse to get out of the house every now and then.

Got to see a screening of the About Last Night remake. This was a remake I went into with low expectations and then was pleasantly surprised that the movie is actually good and is a nice homage to the original - including a scene when one of the couples is watching the original. The remake is raunchy and funny while at the same time deep and touching.

Watched Downfall (the movie that is often used to mock dubious decision making in SEC football) - really reluctant to see another Nazi movie, but it kept popping up on my Netflix recs so I gave it a shot. Very well done movie. Probably even more disturbing because they showed how Hitler used charm and fear in equal measures to inspire loyalty and turning the Reich into a cult. Too often movies make Hitler so cartoonishly evil. To say that this movie "humanizes" the Nazis would be false, but it does show how wrapped up they were in the cult of Hitler, at the same time completely delusional and yet able to rationalize their actions to themselves.

    Closed Circuit.

Engrossing legal thriller w/ a great cast: Eric Bana, Rebecca Hall, Ciaran Hinds and Jim Broadbent.

True story: I read "Closed Circuit" and was thinking of "Short Circuit," which is why reading "Engrossing legal thriller" spun me out so much. :D

We're the Millers. I didn't expect much, but it was actually pretty funny. I recommend it if you're ever in the mood for one of those comedies full of drug and sex jokes, as I was last night.
