    She was great in 'Doubt.'
    As were Streep and Seymour-Hoffman.

    Opinions vary.
Which one of these is not like the others:
    (a) Meryl Streep
    (b) Philip Seymour Hoffman
    (c) Amy Adams

Adams even got eclipsed by Viola Davis, who was in the film for about five minutes.

    Not eclipsed by anyone.

To be fair though, that's like two of the most decorated actors ever that you're comparing her to. To try to make a sports comparison, Hoffman is Ruth and Streep is Ted Williams. If Amy Adams is "only" as good as like Ozzie Smith or Craig Biggio, is that the worst thing in the world?

Adams's nominations, save one, have been for supporting roles.
This is what I've been arguing all along- this is her forte.

Her current nomination is for a leading role. She's had four nominations for supporting roles.
Streep had three nominations for supporting roles.
Hoffman had three nominations for supporting roles.

Streep got the supporting nominations early in her career, pre-superstar.
You appear to love Amy Adams as much as I love astronomer Robert Smith.
It's still no way to conduct an objective examination of someone's corpus.

She's been in a lot of stuff for which I have no use: 'Leap Year,' 'The Muppets,' 'Enchanted,' etc.
    I didn't like 'Julie & Julia.'

I'm certainly not in the I-celebrate-her-entire-catalog camp.

But I've seen her in several movies in which I thought she was great. I point out 'The Fighter' and 'American Hustle' in particular because I think a lot of viewers fall for the big performances in those movies, and I don't think big and over-the-top = good.

Ron Howard's "Rush" was excellent. I never followed Formula 1 and didn't know of the two main characters prior to the movie, but really enjoyed it. Both the leads were strong and it had a certain elegiac quality that stays with you.

Only criticism: Olivia Wilde is barely in it.

Free Movie Friday was "The Butler," which I quickly started lining up against "12 Years a Slave." They both left me in similar places, I guess because it was two different ways of getting the same overall message across.

None of the easily recognizable historic figures -- like the presidents he served -- were anywhere close to reality, which threw me off. Also... Oprah?!?

Caught up with "Warrior," the estranged-brothers-fight-in-MMA movie. Rather enjoyed it.
