Thought I'd go on a Philip Seymour Hoffman trip via Netflix.

Got The Master but never watched it and returned it.

Got Happiness and waited a week. Just put it in and ejected it after 40 minutes. Wasn't going to subject myself to another 100 minutes of that crap. Dreadful. Although, you do get to see PSH post old postcards onto his bedroom wall using globs of cum he shoots onto it after jerking off to crank calls.

    'The Master' was interesting.
    I didn't see 'Happiness.'

    I enjoyed 'Jack Goes Boating.'

We've talked about 'Synecdoche, NY' on this thread or another. That is an interesting movie, Charlie Kaufman's first directing gig.

    'Doubt' is great.
    'Owning Mahoney' is good.

    Couldn't stand Synecdoche.

'Synecdoche' was ultimately unsuccessful, but I respected the effort.

Nebraska on demand. Can't remember last b&w movie I watched, but it worked for this one. Enjoyed it.

    The Artist was also fantastic.

    Gravity.

I gave it 8/10 on my IMDB ratings, but mostly for the incredible visual effects.

Easy to see why it won most of the technical Oscars and I give Cuaron credit for pulling that kind of performance out of Bulloch.

Taking a trip down memory lane and watching "Cousins." It was on Encore this afternoon and I DVR'd it.

Ted Danson at his most likable other than as Sam Malone. William Peterson before he was a big TV star. Isabella Rosalini is just the epitome of awkward beauty in this film. Sean Young at her prettiest and most unlikable -- just like real life.

Interesting to see Danson and Peterson working together way back then considering that Danson is now the lead in CSI -- a role that Peterson was great in but has since left.

Great supporting performances by Keith Coogan as Danson's son, Lloyd Bridges as Danson's dad.

"Clerks" and "The Man Who Wasn't There" are two other notable "modern" films shot in black & white (though in the case of Clerks it was for budgetary reasons).

Doubt is great because it is principally actor-driven.
Story and structure are really not all that sophisticated.

    Veronica Mars.

Best investment I've ever made. Hands down.
