Saw an advanced screening of Heaven Is For Real with Greg Kinear.
It is very good. Tugs at the heart strings and makes you think about your own beliefs. It's a thought-provoking film and isn't some "believe-in-God" Bible-thumping Jesus movie. It's an inspirational story about people struggling with their own faith.

I tried to give the "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" movie the benefit of the doubt - I thought the book was pretty clever - but, no.

Oh Lord, the book was tongue-in-cheek. The movie tried to be serious and it was so terribly awful. Even my 15-year-old son thought it sucked.

I finally caught "Hugo" today. I'd tried to watch it previously and it took awhile to get going and I lost interest. But today I stuck with it and it really is nicely done, although to me it lagged in parts.

My favorite line was when Hugo was explaining to Isabella about how he views the world as a machine and that since every part is useful somehow, he must have a specific purpose.

Was it here that somebody explained that Shoot 'Em Up was basically a live action, R-rated Bugs Bunny cartoon? That's why Owen's character is eating carrots all through the thing.

Wife wanted to rent the Hunger Games movies. They're okay, good way to kill a few hours. Didn't know much about the story before seeing them, but I get the appeal now. 'Tis a story of rebellion. It's Star Wars for today's teens and pre-teens. Looking forward to the next one.

Teenage girls (and some older ones, too) love them some dystopian futuristic thrillers ...

Back when I was a kid, Kevin Costner had the market cornered on our dystopian futuristic movies. "The Postman," "Waterworld," "Tin Cup" ... well, the golf flick wasn't that bad, actually.

Can't go wrong with "Ghostbusters." So glad I caught the theatrical re-release a couple of years ago. Saw it on the big screen again last year around Halloween thanks to the Boise Classic Movies club. It's a shame he was in poor health and passed before the 30th anniversary in June. I was hoping they'd get together for a reunion panel at a convention or something, but you know Murray would turn his nose up at the thought. Hard to tell. He did come back to voice his character in the excellent video game a few years back.

Speaking of Costner, are we sure this "Draft Day" film that they keep advertising isn't an SNL sketch?

YOU SHUT YOUR GODDAMN MOUTH. My mom and I will be seeing it on the 12th (plans already on the 11th).

I went to the premier of "Draft Day" tonight.

Good flick. . . some very unrealistic scenarios in it (especially for people who understand the draft) but still pretty enjoyable.
