Finally saw Captain America: Winter Soldier. Better than OK as superhero films go, but the way Marvel is manipulating its movies and the TV program to set up Avengers 2 is beginning to irk me. Com'on guys, the first one made a billion. People will turn out for the sequel, honest.

And yet you just contributed American dollars to the campaign. Congratulations!

It's genius, actually. Keeps the storyline moving and ties everything together.

Here's another minor peeve concerning modern action comic movies: The credits go on for quite some time.

There are folks in our family who sit for the last credit to roll (it's all movies, not just the ones after which there might be a clip that hints at an upcoming movie.).

I wonder when the rules will be changed so that everyone whose shadow ever passed over a desk at the CGI companies has to get a listing in the credits.

Movies from decades ago had just a page or two of credits. Now, they seem to go on for 5 or more minutes.

Do you cut and paste that or type it over each time?

I've been typing it over, but I might need to switch to cut-and-paste.

What do some of the other people do when they post the same thing over and over? For example, does Whitman have a hot key for "http://www.slate.com"?

Thought I'd check out a few things non-comic book blockbuster to take a little break from that stuff.

    Mud
I need to watch it again. I think I missed out on a few key parts during the middle when my wife and I were trying to figure out how to fry funnel cakes at home. The first attempt went into the trash. The rest were fine.

    The Fisher King
What the hell did I just watch? Robin Williams played nuts as usual. Jeff Bridges's stylist made him look like 1991 Don Henley. I get the story that Terry Gilliam was trying to tell, but it was really long. The tone of the film was all over the place. I figure this was one of those Robin Williams films people hated because it looked like a screwball comedy from previews, and then they left not knowing what to make of it. But, it apparently was an awards darling back in the day. Nominated for a lot of stuff, including Oscars, and one Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress. It's on Netflix streaming if you want to give it a shot.

Spidey two this afternoon. I enjoyed it for what it was. Seems like this franchise is sort of a jumbled mix of TASM and Ultimate.

Saw Neighbors. Wouldn't be surprised one bit if this got some Oscar buzz. Funny, funny movie.

Maybe Rose Byrne. Not anybody else.

Watched Wolf of Wall St. last night. Well made, Leo certainly can act - but it left zero impression other than the absurdity of being 2 hours, 53 minutes long.

You could probably say that about every Marvel movie for a while now. That is where the idea of Nick Fury looking like Samuel Jackson came from. Also, the Triskelion (SHIELD headquarters). Even the Iron Man armor in the first movie is closer to the Ultimate version than the traditional one.

Then again, in the Ultimate line, Gwen Stacy is alive and Peter Parker is dead, so it's a bit different.
