The way 22 Jump Street pokes fun at sequels, blockbuster action movies and itself is just pure genius. Totally enjoyed it.

Pick up the book if you can. It's even better.

Have a favorite Hercules? I have fond memories of that Kevin Sorbo show from the '90s. Don't know why.

Divergent with Mrs. Novelist at the $1.50 theatre. Pretty decent flick, though the first half was spoiled by the lady with the crying toddler in the row in front of us. A semi-incident ensued. Nobody got shot. Once she was convinced to take her child outside, the movie was very enjoyable.

Hi Fidelity on Encore last night. First time I'd watched that movie start to finish. Wish I'd seen it when it first came out. Would've been a lot more relevant to me. Still, it's good fun.

  7. Jack Reacher.
    Meh.
I get it ... His name is Jack Reacher. You only told us that like 70 times in the first 20 minutes.
And he's awesome. Handsome, cool, tough as nails. The ultimate suave alpha male.

I had a really hard time with this guy being so fucking perfect. To a tee. Perfect.
Where the lawyer is in hotel room tells him to put on a shirt.
Beating up five guys, techinically three, because the other two were going run - and Jack - that's Jack Reacher - told us as much. Then reciting the serial number for the agent hours after he asked.
I get it: he's fucking awesome.

On top of all that, I had a really hard time getting past the fact that 5-foot-7 Tom Cruise is the all-encompassing Jack Fucking Reacher.

Charley Varrick ... An old 1970s Walter Matthau movie about bank heist involving mob money. Fucking Deadspin... this is what I get.

It was OK. Decent plot and pretty good acting. Women in the movie were basically props. The bad guy (Joe Don Baker) tells some chick to fetch him a beer. She bends over to dig in the frig, he likes the shape of her ass. He walks into her bedroom. She follows - with beer in hand. He slaps her - no reason, just out of the blue belts her - she smiles. He shuts the door and ...

Matthau even manages to bed a woman five minutes after meant her.

Just say "The Armstrong Lie." I know a lot of us have Lance Armstrong fatigue, but it's a well-done documentary that captures the sociopathic nature of one of sport's great drug cheats.

So many good foreign-language movies you are denying yourself.

The original 'Oldboy' is very good, although very dark and more than a bit disturbing.
It's actually part of a loose trilogy. I've seen 'Lady Vengeance' as well but didn't like it as much as 'Oldboy.'
The other movie is called 'Mr. Vengeance,' and I have not seen it yet.

Watched Apollo 13 last night. I'll watch that movie again and again.

As for one I will never see, the commercials for "Tammy" make me believe that Melissa McCarthy can only play one character.
