Saw an extended 17-minute preview of Guardians of The Galaxy tonight and it made me even more excited to see the movie.

Then we watched Tammy (for free). There are some genuine laugh-out-loud moments, but a pretty stupid movie that was terribly miscast. So 43-year-old Melissa McCarthy is the daughter of 62-year-old Dan Aykroyd (OK) and 54-year-old Allison Janney (HUH?), who is the daughter of 67-year-old Susan Sarandon (WHAT?!)? I'm glad we didn't pay to see it.
And to make matters worse, got home and discovered that our U-Verse DVR froze up and didn't record tonight's 24.

Watched Innerspace Monday night again for the first time in several years — 1987; Dennis Quaid, Martin Short and Meg Ryan; got an Oscar for best visual effects.

    Disconnect.

Now I want to just log off the Interwebs for a while. Seemed a little like Crash to me, at least in pacing and resolution.

Flight. Tremendous run up to the tremendous crash sequence (SPOILER) and then a tremendous amount of talking. Fine performances all around, but I think I could have done with a slightly more ambiguous ending.

Caught "Best Man's Holiday" and was caught completely off-guard. Have never even heard of it, yet ended up enjoying it very much.

Holy shit. Holy mother of shit. Jesus H tap dancing Christ.

It's like The Godfather meets Enter the Dragon meets Gravity.

The action sequences are spectacular. So many people die in so many different ways, and it has a mafia slant that is really well done. The cinematography is amazing.

Watch it with subtitles. The voice over will piss you off.

This movie is just so fucking bad ass. I had no idea this was coming when I got it from the Red Box, and I had never seen the first one.

The bitch had fucking hammers. Fucking hammers.

This movie makes Kill Bill look like a Seals and Marty Croft.

I saw a free preview screening of "Land Ho!" a buddy comedy about a couple of old guys whose wives left them, so they go on vacation together. There were entirely too many unfunny, borderline misogynistic lines which quickly turned the audience from snickers to squirmy silence.

"Pitch Perfect". Basically a college age "Glee" knock off, acapella singing groups. Surprisingly good music and dance numbers. Most of what happens in between is filler. It's uneven and it's not like I'm going to give it a ringing endorsement as classic cinema, but there are a lot of songs that stay with you. Some engaging characters.

Anna Kendrick rapping Dr. Dre's intro into "No Diggety" comes out better than I would have ever believed.

You had me at Anna Kendrick...plus I think a chick from True Blood is in it.
