  1. He doesn't know anything.
    Really.
If he's read two books in five years, he's smarter than whatever it was he had for breakfast.

Yawn, you're stepping on incredibly dangerous ground here. You would be very wise to back off that little stint right now.

No one in the military has illusions about what's expected of them or what they'll face over there. And I for one am not trying to coddle the people in uniform and protect every single one of them. It's the military. They fight, and some die.

But at some point, it becomes more than a simple equation of war + troops = death. It becomes a question of strategy, of planning our goals, of truly defining what we're doing.

It's not a tuck and run, like you've been claiming. It's a step back to see if we're doing it right.

Did Germany attack us? I thought it was Japan.

Shut the fuck up about the WMD issue unless you implicate all the democrats who also beleived it.

  4. Forget it, alley.
He stayed up all night with his army men and has seized the high ground in the nursery and he's not giving it up.

Sorry Fen, but I'm not going to keep tossing out the insults like that. Either I'll have a civilized debate with him (and others) or I'm not going to participate at all. I'm tired of name-calling (unless it's for fun and the other side doesn't mind).

Way to change the subject. If you read my post it said "directly attacked us (Japan) and our allies (Germany)".

You still haven't addressed the issue: People will understand sacrifice if there's a well defined goal and/or reason; They won't if there is neither.

    Nice language, by the way.

  7. Good luck to you, alley.
    He's not worth it.

Alley, you're wasting your breath. If you want to have a debate, at least do it with someone with a brain.

Yawn is dumber than a bag of hammers.

Maybe so, but as long as it doesn't get ugly, I don't mind the effort. Kind of enjoy it, actually. It's the name calling and bashing that turns me off.

    Alley,
Oh, I get it. You just like the odds. :)

Converting someone who WANTS to be converted isn't much of a challenge. Converting a real "sinner" is much more rewarding.

And Yawn, I'm not calling you a sinner. Just couldn't think of another word.

  12. Never tell him the odds.
