Someone check in and let us know how LJB's intervention is going.

Between him and Poindexter, I haven't slept a wink in four days.

  4. Hell, I'd just be happy if he would assign each of his multiple personalities a handle so I know ahead of time which one I'm dealing with.

At risk of being a buzzkill, this is the kind of short-hit story -- given to an attentive features writer, who knows something about Middle Eastern culture and wouldn't mind risking his neck in Iraq -- that could be turned into something meaningful and beautiful. You need a leaping off point like this to write about something like the assault on Iraq's intellectual and cultural elite, and what that means for the future of the country.

I mean, I don't know anything about calligraphy, but it sounds like the murder of this man would be our equivalent of the gangland slaying of Frank Gehry, say, or Terrence Malick. You can imagine how many of us would write about that. And yet, this is a story that'll just fade away.

I dunno. Not to sound like a vulture, but there's a real opportunity here.

Jones, well put. It's so abstract to a western audience. In the right hands, it's gold.

Gehry, Malick, or that guy from the Police Academy movies who can impersonate a car muffler.

I'm sure the penmanship was immaculate.

    That's not a crime, it's public service.

Well, they wanted to call 911, but they were stuck in that walled room ...
