Sad news. Loved his voice. Like a favorite uncle.

I've shed tears over the deaths of very few celebrities. One of them was Jack Buck. I can identify with what longtime Phillies fans must be feeling today. RIP, Harry.

Technically, he did when he was an Astros announcer.

But you're right: Harry's first home game as a Phillies announcer was April 10, 1971 -- opening day for the Vet.

Nice tribute from Jayson Stark: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=4066189

(Beware of blasted audio that starts when you open the page. ::))

I wish I could tell you exactly what I did to convince AdBlock to block the push videos that open up with each story on ESPN. I had to hand-code something or other, but I finally got it to stop the madness.

on the mlb.com website, ALL the major league radio broadcasts and replays are available for $14.95/yr., one of the best values in sports.

one option available is a choice with or without SI. billing is smooth and the audio is excellent for radio.

I'm tipping a few right now in Harry's memory. It is the thing to do.

Damn, this day has sucked royally.

His call of Michael Jack's 500th, at Three Rivers, is one of the best ever.

I got a lot older today with this troika.
