    Yes, there's a long, rich history of girls always nailing the smarts of a guy.

    ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

  3. I would say Daughtry has better vocal range. Also prefer his hair, or lack of. Part of the reason I was impressed with Cook was that he was able to overcome his lack of style and that flock of seagulls haircut.

    The merits of Cook's coiffure aside, I do admire the way he kept his look consistent. I'm sure there were tons of handlers who tried to persuade him to neaten up his looks, but he stayed with what he preferred. I prefer that to Idol contestants who blow in the wind of whatever suggestions they receive.

    It's funny you say that. Go on YouTube and check out some of his earliest performances on the show. Mr. Cook DID clean up considerably. He had much more of a pure grunge look when he began the competition.

  6. True. On the other hand, I would have given anything to shave Jason Castro's head.

    But his hair consistently had that tousled look.

    A question off that clip.

    Cook says there he watched Daughtry the night before to get a competitive edge. But near the end, maybe the semis (?), he said he had gone to support his brother and they talked him into auditioning.

    I mean, I guess they could have prelims one day, then bring them back for the judges the next...but on the show, the judges are there both days.

    Any ideas?

    Yeah, but it was almost a modified Mohawk when he started! ;)

    Looking at that led me to check another one of his songs, and boy, did it stand the test of time. I've watched the "top 10 Idol performances in history," and this one made most of them pale in comparison.

    "Always Be My Baby" made David Cook the favorite in a span of two minutes.

    I'll bring up a question I brought up several weeks ago that passed without comment: Did playing a guitar most of the time play a major role in Cook winning? In multinstrumentalist Brooke White making it further than singer-only Carly Smithson. Was Michael Johns hurt by not playing an instrument? I think Jacuzzi had a decent grasp of the future by trying to play the harmonica that one week, even though he really wasn't an instrumentalist.

    In a way yes. In a way no.

    Was it the guitar that helped Cook? No. Archuleta could have played an instrument and it wouldn't have helped him at all. But Cook is a musician. I think playing the instrument made him appear more comfortable, and you knew that was what he normally did. That made him look as he would on stage.

    And I think in that way, it definitely helped.
