A clarification: Archuleta played piano a couple of times, and didn't really do it super smoothly. Probably didn't hurt him.

Oh yeah. i try to block that punk out.

My point: If you play an instrument, you're going to feel more comfortable with one, which comes across in performances. IF you don't, you're going to feel more awkward with one, which comes across in performances.

I guess my true question is: Does Chris Daughtrey win the 2006 Idol if he is allowed to play guitar?

Another question, regarding what you said: How much better of a vocalist/showperson do you have to be over someone who plays an instrument if you don't?

I don't know, because I can't figure out the judges to be able to answer that.

As for Daughtry: Perhaps. Hard to guess.

The judges actually see a very small percentage of the people who show up and try out. The huge crowds try out in front of producer/screeners. The good and/or entertaining ones then try out in front of the judges several days later. So yeah, Cook had some time to prepare after getting the callback.

The show tries to make it look like the big crowds go before the judges, but you'll notice the crowds are shown in a stadium while the actual TV auditions are always in a hotel conference room.

No, I get that. But I thought they were only in each city for two days. So I assumed most of them would have to see the judges on the same day they did their preliminary tryout.

The judges are only in the city for two days, but that can be a week or more after the initial tryout. While the crowd fills the stadium Simon's in Hollywood sitting by the pool.

Ah. I had just seen a couple dates listed when I've seen ads for when the tryouts are, so I assumed it all happened then.

    Thanks for clarifying.

Liar. You don't watch Survivor and it doesn't keep you from post padding on that thread.
