    This shocks people but professional golfers are not required to know the rules or take any classes or instruction. You pretty much learn the rules as you develop from junior golf days and you're always taught to ask for an official if there are any questions. Some guys get stubborn and have gotten in trouble.

    It's not difficult at all to know how to handle the half-dozen or so situations that make up 95 percent of most rulings golfers encounter. But I'd wager that a majority of tour professionals couldn't list all the options available to them when they're taking a drop from a lateral water hazard.

    On Opening Day, the Indians scored on an 8-2-4 sacrifice fly/double play, and the Rangers manager argued the run shouldn't have counted. One of the simplest rules in baseball.

    J.B. Holmes ran into this very issue last year at Doral when he didn't follow the correct procedure and didn't seem the understand the opposite margin caveat to the lateral water hazard rule.
