Eh, it's no real rumor. Just Tigers fans thinking their pitchers are more valuable than they really are. Teixeira's not going anywhere.

Just read on Buster Olney's blog that the Phillies are prepared to throw a lot of money at Alfonso Soriano.

    http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/sports/15897263.htm

How many home runs could Soriano and Ryan Howard hit next year? At least 55 each?

If the Phils were to bat Howard third, Soriano fourth and Chase Utley fifth, will Utley drive in 130 runs next year?

Or should the Phillies trade Howard to Detroit to bolster the rotation?

$12.5 million for Glavine? That's ridiculous.

Interesting reason for that second year:

The NYDN source says that Glavine would prefer to enter the HOF the year after Maddux, if both are elected on first ballot and Maddux retires after 2007 (as planned).

And assuming good health for Glavine and the Mets' need for pitching depth, it works out well for both sides.

Of course, this also means Glavine won't come home to win No. 300 next year. (/disappointedBravesfanboy)

I seriously believe Soriano (who hit 50 homers in RFK!!!!) could have challenged bonds record in citizens bank park. at least half his doubles whould have been homers. we would hold a parade here in philly if soriano came to town. although they could have a sign and trade with soriano to detroit for todd jones.

What about Frank Thomas as a Tigers' DH? His one-year contract in Oakland is up and he'd likely relish an opportunity to be able to face the White Sox that often.

    Huh?
No such thing as sign and trade in MLB. And who would trade Soriano for Todd Jones?

I hope my sarcasm font detector is just not working.

Well, as long as they don't ask for Joel Zumaya. He may never have handled a role other than middle relief at the major league level, but damn he throws hard. That's worth much more than an outfielder who provides the best power-speed combination in the game, right?

(This has been a test of spnited's sarcasm detector. This is only a test. If this was an actual suggestion that Joel Zumaya has more value than Alfonso Soriano, it sure as hell would have been somebody else typing it).

But Soriano wouldn't get to hit against Phillies pitching if he signed with them so the Bonds' mark mgiht still be out of reach.
