Well, now we know the answer to "When the fuck did Guillermo Mota get this good?"

    That was my first thought.
Also, at least he apologized and didn't do the "I didn't do it, the test is wrong." Or my favorite "I thought it was a legal supplement, but the side of the package was written in English/Spanish and it was confusing."

Teixiera is due for arbitration after next year and will be a free agent after 2008. Boras is already talking high eight figures for the guy and the Rangers may not want to put up with two years of melodrama. Plus, the Rangers are, once again, going nowhere fast with their young core. The word is out on the overrated Hank Blalock so Teixiera is their best trade chip if they want to reload, particularly on the pitching side, in a hurry.

I will not be surprised at all if he's traded this winter.

Another dumb Mets fuck. How many Mets (majors and minors) have been busted now? It's at least five.

Dumb shit Mota. He just cost himself his last decent payday.

As you guys point out, it sure does explain how Mota went from not getting anybody out in the AL to dominating the NL. The NL's not that weak. But the Mets sure are.

  6. Just as a reminder - Lou Merloni has filed for free agency.

    Let the bidding begin.

You should really quit baiting the straphangers, BYH.

  8. Mota spelled backwards is atom. As a free agent Mota is now radioactive.

(Feel free to steal that as a lede)

  9. Let me toss this out there as something to think about.

The Tigers need a 1st baseman and they need a left-handed bat. How about signing free agent Trot Nixon and moving him from being an outfielder to being a 1st baseman? Nixon absolutely kills the ball at Comerica:

    Trot Nixon - 23 G / 87 AB/ 36 H / 7 HR / 21 RBI / .414 BA / .485 OBP / 1.220 OPS

Nixon is injury prone but moving to 1st could help that and he could be relatively cheap - say $10 million for 2-years

I don't think it's quite that simple. Steroids don't kick in overnight. But yeah, Mota just cost himself a lot of money. All he had to do was remember three simple letters: HGH.

Do you think he is athletic enough? I just can't see him being very successful at first especially after watching Sheffield try it. Sheffield didn't do too bad, but it wasn't great and in my mind he is more athletic than Nixon.

Interesting stuff, Chris. But will the Tigers want to hand first base over to a guy with minimal power after this year's experiences with Shelton (post-May) and Caset?

And Trot was a two-sport recruit to NC State, Angola, so he might have the athleticism to play first. He's no Piazza, that's for sure.
