I didn't realize Trot Nixon was still playing.

What kind of numbers did Mike Greenwell put up this year?

Or maybe because those numbers were piled up a few years back when the Tigers pitching was horseshit.
He's had 19 ABs at Comerica the past 3 years without a HR and with 2 RBI.
He's 33 years old in April, has NEVER played first base, is injury prone and his numbers have been dropping precipitously the past 3 years. Yeah, that's who I want as my first baseman.

I don't see it. Trot had three very nice seasons for the Red Sox -- '01 - '03 -- but I don't see him getting back to that level.

  4. spnited - Nixon was looking prety good in the first half this year until he got hurt

    Nixon Pre All Star break 78 G / 264 AB / 6 HR / 43 RBI / .311 BA / .870 OPS

In the past two years Nixon has hit .421 at Comerica (8 for 19) with 2 extra base hits and no HR. I specifically remember some of those singles being bombs. I'm telling you - this guy rakes the ball at Comerica. I think he's worth a shot for the Tigers. He's the poor man's JD Drew.

I can't believe a discussion of Trot Nixon lasted this long.

The Tigers would be better off bringing back Casey, which really says a lot about how bad the idea of signing Nixon as a first baseman really is.

"I specifically remember some of those singles being bombs"

What the fuck does that mean?

Aging, injury-prone, on the downside, has never played first base. Yeah, he's worth $5 mill.

Maybe you should just go back to being stupid on the political threads.

  8. I think the talk about Trot is more of an indication of how thin the 1st base free agent market is than anything else.

No need to get your depends in a bunch and start calling names.

True about the first baseman market. Not much there. How about Aubrey Huff? He's played some first base, got some power and he's only 30 or so.

I don't see it, either. He's lost so much power that I can't see anyone in a rush to play him at first base.

Aubrey Huff, on the other hand, would be much better for anyone with a need there.

Matt Murton would be killer at first base. [/idiottribunesportswriters]

Huff is a nice gamble, but that's all he is after two lousy years. There's always the chance he returns to the 25-30 HR, 100 RBI level of 2003 and 2004. Certainly a much better option than Sean Casey or Trot Nixon.
