The L.A. Times reported today that the Angels are pursuing CF Gary Matthews Jr., 3B Aramis Ramirez AND LHP Barry Zito.
As an Angels fan, I would be completely ecstatic if they pulled that off. Owner Arte Moreno has already said that money will be no object this winter and that this isn't an either/or situation. They're going after all three.

Gary Matthews is going to suck at a high rate of speed if he leaves Arlington.

I'd rather have Casey than Huff.

In his good years, Casey at least hits for high average and gets on base a lot.

Huff hits .280 with just enough power to get the idea he's helping you, but he really isn't. If he were worth worth a crap as a third baseman, his offense would be fine. As a 1B or RF, he hurts you more than helps.

The AP is reporting the Tigers have extended Dombrowski for another four years.

I'd rather have Huff. At the very least, he'll hit you 15-20 HR (if healthy).

Sean Casey will give you empty offense (all tied to batting average), lousy defense and a DL trip by mid-May. And then there's the baserunning -- dude makes Mike Piazza look like Carl Crawford.

d_b is reporting the Expos are grooming a young future GM named Dombrowski, who should have them contending for decades.

Truth be told, I'd rather have neither. I don't think either is much better than the other, though I'd think you could get Casey for cheaper at this point.

Not a surprise at all. He only had one year left and would have had a ton of teams wanting to hire him next year.

It is difficult to put into words just how big a joke it is that Jeter won the Gold Glove once, never mind twice.

Apparently, if enough people say you're overrated for a long enough period of time, you become underrated, and in order to right this horrible wrong, people elect you the winner of an award you had no business winning.

Ooooo look he makes that great throw as he's leaping towards left field! Maybe if he had range he wouldn't have to throw from short left.

As for Aubrey Huff, he's going to make some team very unhappy if he signs a four-year deal. He's a liability anywhere on the diamond and his offense is already starting to go south. His XBH have decreased in each of the last three years.

I actually disagree here. He didn't just become underrated, he improved, both from impressions and by the stats that informed us all that he wasn't very good to begin with. I still don't think he's great, but he's now very good, and with Arod at 3rd, who would you have given it to?
