Arizona just got rid of an older version of JD. I can't take the credit for this, but it really fits: The NY Daily News had one of those scout takes prior to the Mets-Cards LCS and the scout said Green is just like Drew: Doesn't look like he's trying all that hard out there and his declining production doesn't come close to matching his salary.

Damn. I have a headache after figuring out what that meant.

  3. BYH - I think it fits. Arizona has a young stats oriented GM who Boras could probably steamroll. Plus Eric Byrnes and Carlos Quentin as the stars in the outfield may spell desperation. Couple that with the fact that Arizona for the first time in years has money to spend and you get a potential JD Drew train wreck in the desert.

Maye JD Drew was distraught over the elections?

Anybody hear about Aramis Ramirez insisting he's going to stay in the National League? Heard something second-hand today, but I can't find a comment like that anywhere.

Would be interesting since one of the teams with money to spend that could really use him is the Angels.

  5. FWIW - Drew and Nomar accounted for 25% of the HR and RBI for the Dodgers last season. Can you imagine losing that much offense? Ned Colletti probably has Soriano's agent on speed dial and his wearing out the button.

Nah, I think Josh Byrnes learned well at the altar of Theo. If Drew is willing to sink so low as to accept a short-term deal, maybe it would work. But there's no way he's getting five years from the DBacks.

Plus, don't the DBacks have a ton of young prospects coming up? Why block their path with JD?

PS: My first note to Chris was written backwards. Just like JD Drew's name!! :D :D

  7. Thanks for explaining your joke but it wasn't necessary. This isn't a political thread where people don't get things on their own.

And as far as Byrnes learning well from Theo - wasn't Theo the guy who gave all that money to Matt Clement?

And I think Theo will be the guy that gives a lot of money to Drew. The Sox will trade Manny and put Wily Mo Pena in left, Crisp in center and Drew in right.

I knew YOU got the joke, dumbass! :D

Good point on Theo. I'd assume that's just because he wasn't in office when Clement was signed. Oh, wait, he was.

Point on Theo, though, is that he won't give anything more than a four-year deal to anyone and if Drew is going to punt three years at $33 million, Boras has to be telling him he'll get five for $55M somewhere. He certainly won't get that in Boston or Phoenix, though maybe he ends up in Phoenix if there's no dummy offering a five-year deal. I'd be surprised if he ended up in Boston as long as Schilling is there.

JD Drew is going to make a lot more than $33 mil over the next three years. Why do you think Sheffield was pissed the Yanks picked up his $13 mil option? He knows he would make much more as a free agent.

By spring training, BJ Ryan is going to be pissed about HIS salary.

If Sheffield was a quarter as smart as he thinks he is, he'd shut the hell up. Because guess who negotiated that contract? That's right: Sheffield. Dumbass wouldn't get $13 mil on the market after this year anyway.
