Still one of the cooler trade stories I've ever heard.

That Wright-to-Balto trade isn't a bad gamble by the Orioles. Wright had his best season under Mazzone, though I'm not sure there's much Mazzone can do if Wright's arm is so shot he can only go 90 pitches a game.

Say this for Wright: He was a bust for the Yankees, but unlike that turd Carl Pavano, he tried hard and worked his way back from a legitimate injury to at least show up on the mound 30 times last year.

Just curious, I read the O's would trade prospects for Wright ... anyone see which ones possibly?

Presumably lower-tier ones, since the Orioles could pass on the deal and just get Wright for nothing but cash if the Yanks decline his option.

Aramis Ramirez resigns with the Cubs for 5 years, 70 million per Fox sports.com and Chicagosports.com

Kerry Wood signs a one year deal as well.

I wonder if that will take them out of the running to keep Juan Pierre. Can the Cubs afford to resign both?

They need to run far away from Juan Pierre.

What's wrong with Juan Pierre? I'm guessing he doesn't get on base enough? (Honestly don't know since I don't follow the NL a lot).

He gets a lot of hits and steals bases, but he never walks, never drives in runs and has ZERO power. Factor in his disappearing act in April and May, and I won't be sad to see him go.

Cubs save face by keeping Aramis. Of course, they are still run by a clueless newspaper chain and will have no chance of winning anything until they are sold.

That being said, Pierre is as good as gone. If they had a replacement, I wouldn't mind.

But they don't. (See above comment about being run by a newspaper company.)

  10. With Ramirez re-signing with the Cubs - that makes Rich Aurilia the best available 3rd baseman. How thin does the market have to be when the best option is now 35-year old Rich Aurilia?

Does Aurilia's agent get to play off the Reds and Giants? Who else needs a third baseman?

Ramirez' signing also helps BYH's prediction that someone will greatly overpay Aubrey Huff take one step closer to coming true.

And right into the arms of Gary Matthews Jr. :D :D :D <--------just too easy

Fortunately for you and the other Cubbie fans, A_QB, history suggest sons following fathers at Wrigley is a CAN'T MISS proposition. Just ask this guy.
