Just be ready for the Chicago-area dung beetles to tell us 50 times how Aramis doesn't hustle all the time.

Hey Mike and Dawg - now that the Cubs have Aramis Ramirez signed how about doing a swap - A-Rod for Ramirez straight up?

I'll hang up and listen to your response off air.

You know at least one caller will make that suggestion tomorrow in NYC

Fuck that, Sarge Jr. sucked the first time he played for the Cubs. If anyone other than the Rangers signs him he will immediately start sucking at a high rate of speed.

I think the "worked well under Leo Mazzone" line was also given for the reason the Orioles signed Russ Ortiz ....

i doubt aurillia's back with the reds -- the only place he would start every day is second, and i don't think he wants to do that

i'd expect to see him in san fran. or with the mets (obviously not at 3rd)

Damn I forgot Sarge Jr. already played for the Cubs. I forgot he's already played for almost as many teams as Mike Morgan.

He's probably going to suck for whomever signs him. But not as quickly nor as badly as Aubrey Huff.

Dodgers do. Bill Mueller is still hurt, that guy they got from the Braves last season isn't great and the Times the other day had a story about Nomar possibly back and would consider playing at 3B.

I don't think I've heard the ball and bags for Kerry Leigtenberg story. Please enlighten-berg me.

Shaggy, Lightenberg was pitching for an independent league team managed by ex-Braves catcher Greg Myers. And when the Braves signed him, they sent over some baseballs in addition to the agreed-upon cash. There may have been some other equipment as well.

It was Greg Olson (not Myers, and not Gregg Olson, the 1989 AL ROY), and the ex-Braves catcher is also the subject of one of my favorite baseball photos of all time (below).

And it wasn't a trade -- it was a free agency signing. Ligtenberg didn't have a contract in professional baseball at the time. He was playing for the Olson-managed Southern Minny Stars (Austin, MN) of the indy Prairie League. Olson recommended him to the Braves, and as a token of appreciation, the team sent him back six dozen baseballs and two dozen bats.
