IIRC, Olson was part owner of the team.

  2. Yeah - I'm bumping this to the first page.

What are you going to do about it?

I'm curious whether signing Mark DeRosa will win the approval of Cubs fans here. Three years, $13 million.

That seems like a lot of money to pay to someone that was a career utility player who had a breakout season last year.

In that division, though, it's merely keeping up with the Joneses.

Given that it's the Cubs it doesn't surprise me one bit.

DeRosa, if used properly, can be a real asset in Chicago. With Dusty gone there's a real chance of that happening now.

Platoon him with Jones and spot start him everywhere else.

The Cubs plan on making DeRosa their everyday second baseman

Typical Tribune/newsroom strategy: Wait for a hole to open, then plug it with whatever's available.

To steal a line from another site, I'm surprised the Trib didn't petition for a rule change so one person would play second base and first base. After all, the second baseman is just standing there and has all sorts of spare time. [/oaklandpressstrategy]

Actually, Dusty Baker would probably love this guy - his on-base pct. is dreadful (especially if you take out his career year last season).

And he'll be 32 in February. Nice move, Cubs.

Oh, and for those that scoffed at J.D. Drew opting out, I have a feeling he's going to cash in big-time. He'll (i.e. Boras) will get a nice bidding war going. Besides, Boras always shoots for the moon with his clients - and gets it.

2 years, 12 mil. for El Duque? Did Franco need company on his way to the AARP meetings? Who were they bidding against.
