I think she was combining whatever his salary is plus the posting fee, even though he won't be getting the posting fee, it is what the Red Sox will be paying for him per season.

The Sox need pitching, their other FA options are Schmidt, Zito and who? Schmidt (sp.) is injury prone, and Zito has a terrible record at Fenway. Zito will get 13+million a year, about the same that Matsusaka will get for salary.

As a Sox fan I'm very happy with this move, the upside is huge on many levels. Hopefully he's a solid #2 by year 2, and if that happens he's an ATM for the Sox. The Sox games will then be frequently aired in Japan and in turn Japanese companies will want to attach their name to Fenway, that will drive up the cost of advertising in Fenway across the board.

But, if he sucks obviously none of that money will be there.

Or if he gets hurt, none of that money will be there.

    I agree...

  7. As a Red Sox fan let me say that Red Sox fans are the most intelligent and best looking fans in sports.

    So I resent the implications.

    That said - Yankees suck

I went back a couple pages, but never saw anything on this:

Up here in the Great White North, TSN (Canada's ESPN knockoff) just reporter on SportsCentre (yes, R before E) the Jays are close to a two-year (maybe three-year) deal with Frank Thomas. Jays are supposedly looking to make him their DH.

As opposed to what, making him their shortstop? No team with any sense is going to sign Thomas to play regularly in the field again.

Got to love it. Joe Girardi is named NL Manager of the Year six weeks after the Marlins canned him. Not a big surprise, but enjoyable just the same.
