Does this mean the A's going after Bonds rumors are true?

Also, according to the Post the Yankees signed Mussina to a two-year deal worth $22.5 million. Pretty good deal for that good of a pitcher, I'd say.

Jerry Crasnick is reporting on ESPN Radio the Padres have traded Peavy for Horacio Ramirez, Marcus Giles and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

That would be just an awful trade for the Padres if true.

Awful. Peavy would have looked great in pinstripes.

Holy crap. That can't be accurate.

The Padres gave up their best pitcher and one of the five best pitchers in the NL for a fifth starter, a roid freak who is already declining and a catching prospect who, I believe, had a subpar year this season?

Wow. Sandy Alderson starts throwing his weight around and all hell breaks loose.

What makes it even more bizarre is that the hole at second was self-inflicted. Would they have been better off with Barfield & Peavy? That 3b from Cleveland better be pretty good.

That's not a terrible trade for the Padres.

Peavy has good stuff, but he was 11-14 with a 4.09 ERA for a playoff team this year. The Padres know more about the guy than anybody else, so if they were willing to deal him there had to be a good reason.

In return San Diego gets a starting pitcher, a starting second baseman and a guy who is supposed to be one of the best catchers in the game.

The Braves get to add Peavy to a rotation that already has John Smoltz and Tim Hudson.

Peavy is due $18 million over the next three years and he's 25 with four seasons of big-league experience. This is a market where average pitchers are going to get $10 million for multiple years.

Trading Peavy makes no sense at all.

Not only does it not make any sense, but I haven't heard the report in the last 1.5 hours on ESPN and another Web site said it was not true.
Sorry. I'll try to be more substantiated with my rumors next time.

Teams always know the players they are giving away better than we do, but that doesn't mean they don't occasionally do something stupid.

Yes, Horacio Ramirez is a starting pitcher. But he's not a good one. He's a 4 or 5 at best.

Giles is constantly hurt and he wasn't very good even when he did play last year. And the minor league catcher definitely saw his stock fall last year.

Peavy was probably hurt as much by the WBC as any pitcher in the game and it showed in a brutal first half. He was back to his usual self in the second half.

If this is true, they would have been much better off just keeping Barfield and Peavy.

The market for left handed short relief specialists just went through the roof. The Orioles gave Jamie Walker $12 mill for three years. JC Romero, Villone, et al are licking their chops now.

The Orioles are one of the dumbest organizations in all of sports.
    That's all.

JC Romero has been so bad the last two years he probably won't even cash in in this insane market.

Now Mike Stanton? He'll cash in. Guy was traded twice by THE NATIONALS (hi Moddy) for flotsam and jetsam and now he's going to get two years off two good months. Someone check his urine.

Scott Schoneweiss is also going to make major money.
