I might be one of them if Chicago still had an NHL team.

I hear ya. Just saying, every time someone starts a new thread, some thread cop has a meltdown, whining 'wasn't there a thread on this six weeks ago,' or something like that, so no one wants to start new threads. So everything gets all jammed together.

Doesn't apply to hockey, just cause, you know, it's hockey. 8)

That's all, back to the Stove.

Because, God forbid, there is more than one hockey thread. It'll be tough for the non-hockey folks and pathetic excuses like Dyepack to not click on (a) thread.

    The distaste is quite mutual.

  7. I think if you told people in the spring that Toronto would come in 2nd in the AL East this year - then JP Riccardi would have been the front-runner for executive of the year. In my opinion he just may be among the top 3 GM's in the AL.

Well, he's behind Billy Beane and Terry Ryan by a mile. Maybe he can fight it out for that prestigious third spot.

  9. That's exactly why I said top 3.

Dombrowski, Epstein, Williams and Cashman all have WS rings. Ricciardi has never built a team that's even made the playoffs. Granted, he's at a competitive disadvantage in a loaded division, but I have a hard time buying that he belongs in the top three.

  11. Dombrowski is the only one among that group who I think is close.

Riccardi has only had a couple of years and already he's formed the Blue Jays into a legit contender. The Jays just need one more starter. If they get Randy Wolf - then the Blue Jays are on complete equal footing with the Red Sox and Yankees even though their payroll probably won't top $90 million.

Ricciardi has improved the Blue Jays (slightly) by spending a lot of money -- and he still has never won more than 87 games. He just gave $20+ million to a 39-year-old, injury-plagued DH no one wanted this time last year. Let's see him win something. Hell, even the wild-card would suffice.
