Not 12 months ago. Twenty-four months ago, sure. But 12 months ago he was off galivanting with Pearl Jam or something.

If Theo signs JD Drew, he'll never sniff one of these lists again.

And Perenially, I put Cashman down because I've been impressed a) with his ability to last so long working under Steinbrenner and b.) what he's done since he actually got some authority.

So does this mean they're down on Milledge? If so, they should be kicking themselves for not trading him at the deadline when he had a-young-Willie-Mays trade value ("sure I'd love Oswalt, but I'm not giving up Milledge & Heilman. Maybe one of them..." [/sportsradiometsfans]

I agree that the Mets should have dealt Milledge before he hurt his value with his play at the major league level last season. Now they just have to hope he grows up, learns to play defense and improves quickly.
But I'm not sure how much the Alou signing has to do with Milledge. Even if Milledge opens the season as a regular, the Mets need to add at least one more outfielder to take Cliff Floyd's place and keep Endy Chavez in the fourth outfielder role where he belongs.

How do you figure? Green, Beltran & Milledge OR Alou, no?

Green, Beltran, Alou... Endy as the 4th OF, Ben Johnson as the 5th.

Milledge turns 22 in April. Another year at Norfolk can't hurt him.

Ugh. I blew that one. Forgot the Mets still had what's left of Shawn Green. Though I still don't think signing Alou means they are giving up on Milledge. They just can't count on him being ready to be a full-time player in 2007.

Milledge is gone and, in inimitable Mets fashion, long after he's exhausted his status as a top prospect (Scott Kazmir excluded, of course). Give credit to the Mets: Only they would draft in the first round a guy with a rep for banging 13-year-olds and then act surprised when he turns out to be a punk. oh wait that's right his dad is a cop and his parents travel around the country providing him guidance and support. ::)

And then of course Kazmir is traded because HE'S the one with an attitude problem.

    Clueless morons.

Milledge is not going anywhere except to AAA (That's New Orleans now, isn't it?) for another year.

And we'll see how great a star Scott Kazmir becomes after his shoulder surgery.

Milledge is gone. Don't make me bet you! :D

And even if Kazmir's left arm falls off tomorrow, that was still a horseshit trade by a horseshit organization. And guess what? Zambrano blew his arm out before Kazmir. Whoops! But I thought the Mets traded him because Kazmir because HE was the injury risk!

He's done more for the D-Rays in 2+ years than Zambrano would do for the Mets in 2+ decades. In addition, he's 23 in January. Even if he loses next year to shoulder surgery, he's still got plenty of time to have a good career. Unlike Zambrano or Bartulamato Fortunado (sp).

Never said the Kazmir trade was any good... just let's not reserve the spot in Cooperstown for Kazmir just yet.

We'll work out the Milledge bet if you manage to show up for lunch ::) ;D

I think the point is more that the Mets didn't get much for him. Even if you believe the kid is an injury risk, and what happened late this year sure seems to back that up, he had value. They should have gotten more than some stiff who can't find the plate.

I could feel Cub fans licking their chops all the way down here in Laredo when Alfonso Soriano's deal was announced. I hope you are happy, Cub fans. Tom Bodet will still be leaving the light on for you in October.

Meanwhile, Astros fans ponder the future of Roger and Andy. Roger ... just go ahead and call it a career, OK? The team can't put two sticks together and rub them for runs for you. Andy, you still have some stuff so I would not mind seeing you back in the rotation.

Keeping the hot stove fires lit ... :)
