Interesting to hear a Tim Hudson rumored deal to the Orioles. Is Hudson toast or was last season an abberation? The A's starters seem to crap out once they are out of Oakland.

    Cautionary tale to Zito shoppers?

& Sorianowill not be the worst deal of the offseason either. He'll earn it for half the contract, which seems to be the new standard these days.

An under-the-radar move: Angels signed reliever Justin Speier to a four-year(!) contract today.

Speier seemed to fill the same role for the Blue Jays last year that Scott Shields is currently filling for the Angels. Makes me think the Angels might be dangling Shields to a team desperate for a closer, making him part of a package to get that extra bat they need.

Or maybe they figure that Donnelly (who seemed kind of inconsistent) is done. Put Shields as the 7th-inning guy, Speier in the 8th and Frankie in the 9th.

Awful, awful, awful deal. Guy is 33 years old and misses a chunk of time late last season with an elbow problem...hey I know what to do! Let's sign him long-term!!!!

As for Hudson, I think he's done as an elite pitcher. Look at that frame. He was never going to hold up to the early workload.

Speier's mechanics don't exactly lend themselves to a problem-free elbow, either.

  7. Looks like Nomar is going to re-sign with the Dodgers for a reported 2-years and $20 million.

    Only the Mets could replace an injury-prone 33-year-old with...........an injury-prone 40-year-old.

It's going to be extremely enjoyable to watch the one-season wonders fall apart next year.

I don't think that's fair. The Mets had a deal in place with the 'Stros for Oswalt, but the Orioles (or was it the Devil Rays? I can't keep my badly managed franchises together) demanded more compensation. When they did not receive more players and cash, Angelos pulled out of the deal and it fell apart.

If you want to criticize the Mets for not pulling the trigger, then look at the early season Milledge-for-Dontrelle deal that Minaya passed on.

There never was a Milledge for Dontrelle deal on the table, that was NY tabloid bullshit.
The Marlins were NOT and are NOT trading Dontrelle.

The upshot for the Mets is that they save on the cost of a set of batting gloves.

Ah, I did not know that the deal was never on the table. Thank you for the information .

Those A's pitchers were worked really hard at a young age. Mulder fell apart. Hudson is falling apart. I wouldn't touch Zito.
