And the Cubs with Wade Miller... :D

If the Tigers offer Bonderman straight up for Teixiera, Dave Dombrowski should be sent back to Florida. As Goonie noted, Bonderman is 23 and has improved every single season. There's always the risk of arm injury with a pitcher, but what's the point of enduring Bonderman's growing pains if you're going to trade him right before he starts to hit his peak?

Good point, but everyone needs pitching and the market is scarce, so why not continue to try and improve the offense. Plus, they have a decent rotation with Hamels, Leiber, Moyer and Myers.

Sheffield's gonna be a dick and refuse to play hard for any team that trades for him unless they give him a contract extension. There's no way the Phillies would pay the huge $$$ it would take to bring in both Shef and Ramirez. One, maybe, but not both. Especially when they already have an above average offense.

I just don't believe Sheffield is in position to be a dick and not play hard, he has to prove that he is capable of getting an extension.
Maybe you are right and he doesn't go to the Phillies, but someone like the Cubs could definitely afford his contract rather than taking a risk on Carlos Lee or Soriano long term for lots of money.

Speaking of Dombrowski, he himself could be a free agent next year. He's got a year left on his contract and the Cubs want him badly.
But Ilitch will likely try to sign him longterm this offseason. Should get a decent raise, even though he's already one of the highest paid GMs.

Dombrowski has said he wants the challenge of keeping a team on top (something he couldn't get with Florida with their fire sale).

Bell (thank god) was traded in july and he is off the books. i think the phils are the front runners for ramirez, perfect fits for everyone involved. they are definetly gonna trade burrell (possibly to the tigers or orioles as a dh)even if they pay most his salary like they did with thome and abreu. the phillies are not as cheap as everyone on this board is saying so far they did have the 4th or 5th highest payroll at about 110 million last year.

Someone who knows a hell of a lot more than I do told me that the Blue Jays are trying hard to get Sheffield via a third team.

As a Phils fan, Ramirez is OK by me and then some, but I would still rather see pitching investments. Moyer's damn near as old as I am, and my enthusiasm for Lieber has always been muted.

Twins pick up Silva's option for $4 milllion and change.

Pretty much had to with Liriano uncertain.

You said it yourself. There is always the risk of injury with a pitcher. And Bonderman isn't getting much better until he learns a third pitch, and that's no sure thing.

Teixeira's a better player right now and he's also got some upside. That's the point of having young pitching depth like the Tigers do. You can trade one of them for the big bat you need.

Um, the point is turning him into one of the top handful of young players in the league. Seems like a decent strategy to me. The injury risk is one issue (think the Cubs or Twins would have minded cashing in Prior or Liriano when they were at or near their peak value), and in this case, on raw talent & potential it's an upgrade - Texiera is a better player, and is likely to remain better for as longas he plays.

Where did all these Mark Teixeira trade rumors come from, other than a Tigers fan posting on this thread?

I can't see the Rangers trading their top player, who's only 26, and is one year removed from hitting 43 home runs and driving in 144 runs. The Rangers need pitching help, but they're not going to win a lot of 2-1 games in that ballpark.

And doesn't it scare you Tiger fans that Teixeira hit .264 on the road?

Maybe the Cardinals will trade Albert Pujols for Justin Verlander.
