    Little Nicky was underrated.

I love Billy Madison unconditionally. But Adam Sandler is to movies as KISS is to albums ... you should like/own one, but one's enough.

    Agreed.

Wedding Singer was a magical flick. It was the only one where he's not trying too hard and thus killing every scene, and it's the only one where Drew Barrymore is as cute and appealing as her reputation.

Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are pretty essential.

What about those movies is "essential"?

I think they qualify as "essential" because, for better or worse, we laugh more while watching them than we may want to, and hundreds of thousands of people have seen them and laughed at them.

I really approve of the logic you're using there; very well-reasoned and, frankly, quite erudite.

I'd say they are pretty defining movies for their era, especially for people born between, say, 1974 and 1984. No one is going to suggest they're Caddyshack or Dumb and Dumber, but they're the comedies along the road that get us from Blazing Saddles and The Jerk to 40-Year-Old Virgin and Anchorman.

I remember being somewhat blown away by Bowfinger. Am I an outlier or was that another great movie and potential comedic milestone?

The only milestone it served as was as the last good Eddie Murphy comedy.

That was painful. But the dude had a nice little George C. Scott to Paul Schrader "You LIED to me!" moment there.
